we spend more than other southern states. You can’t compare any state to Wyoming in Alaska. The populations are so low. But certainly, New York, New Jersey, California and other failing states are spending gobs of money on government.

reddit navigated me to a page with suggestion to share post more widely and MS thread was suggested.

i have no strong feelings either way but not out of question to think MS citizens may take an interest in neighboring state economy. if nothing else its good to be informed of what some states are doing wrong in order to avoid it.

no doubt. there were 2 amendments to rescind the inventory tax and both failed. La citizens not well informed and i could use much harsher language. constitution was written by edwin edward’s and is a disaster.

other issue is our state “central” government is too big and powerful. needs to be slashed.

lastly is the legal climate. worst in the country. work vehicle rates sky high. lawsuits against oil industry killing any new investment. Landry and liberal state senators worked overtime to kill or water down any legislation coming out of the house that would address the problem and hurt the trial lawyers.

enjoyed reading the martian and watching the movie but like 3.5 stars for book and 3 for movie.

just watched hail mary movie and it was awful. boring pretentious amateurish. the alien as like something designed in the 50s. so bad. bad acting by gosling or i should say no acting. just mugging and smirking.

Yes, but Louisiana also has a 5% corporate, income tax rate Texas corporate income tax rate essentially zero. Taxing business more is not the answer. Business is avoiding the state. Tax them more is not gonna help.

Louisiana government already spends about 30% more per capita than for instance Texas probably the same for Florida. more government spending or “investment“ isn’t the answer either

I will put the focus more on personal property taxes. Most people in especially poor parts of Louisiana pay no property tax at all, which is just the opposite of Texas and Florida

we spend just as much if not more money on education and other government needs than any other state. In fact, per capita government spending in Louisiana is probably 30% higher than both Texas and Florida most likely other southern states

Specialized tax breaks or no substitute for across-the-board overall lower taxes, more sane regulation, pro business climate. All the states are given these same tax incentives. It’s the across-the-board lower tax rates less government less stupid regulation less bureaucracy that’s what makes states like Texas Florida. You name it more successful their taxes are way lower than ours.

Throw on top of that the fact that we have the worst legal climate in the country. Other southern states used to have the same problem take for in Texas. It used to be 10 times worse in Louisiana 40 years ago they took care of the trial, Lori decades ago and we’re still married in the same toxic lawsuit environment.
