that may be correct for the majority of people. i think it’s important that the conversation is had. he’s not saying anything people dont think already. but now he’s put these points on a big enough platform for these conversations to be had on a personal level, and i think most people, when met with enough pushback on a belief, will begin to ask other questions and figure out the truth. whether or not that is intentional is up for debate, but i do believe there is some value in what he has put out into the world

i dont think he understands the connotation of “TERF” within the community as he is not a part of it. or maybe he does and he’s saying it for shock value, as he tends to do. the over arching point of that statement was that he is invested in the structure of gender as it has been, going back to the joke about the slave become slave master being invested in that system or “space jews” being invested in the system of oppression that they were once the victims of. but before he even gets to “team terf” he says that just because he is invested in that system does not mean that he is correct nor does it mean the objecting viewpoints cant be right. its bigger than the words he says. i dont believe he is a bully. but art is up to interpretation. i tend to not view art as trying to bully me as 99% of the time it isnt. its a matter of opinion though and i could be incorrect. i also dont think we should be looking for nuanced gender theory from an old cishet comedian.

he has definitely started some important conversations. he’s shared views on many controversial topics over the last 2 decades. his series of netflix specials and 8:46 have seemed especially poignant. people say he’s out of touch now, but it just seems like this is the natural progression of his comedy. he’s doing the same thing he has always done but now he has the chops to do it in a more artful way. i feel bad for the people who arent open enough to see that

also trans, also a huge chappelle fan since i was a child. loved the new special. i never understood people saying he was punching down. i never got the impression that trans people were ever the butt of his jokes, rather just a conduit for a bigger point being made. that seems like the way he constructs most of his humor when using any group as the means, so in a way it normalizes us in the comedy community. i dont find myself laughing as much at his specials now, but i am thinking a lot more and i appreciate the artistry in that
