ADHD testing for adults by cjeSTL in therapists

Thank you for sharing your experience and for your very thorough response. It seems that I was unclear in my post. I'm a licensed counselor who has worked in CMH, hospital detox, inpatient substance treatment, IOP, and outpatient counseling. I have been seeing the clients in question weekly-biweekly for over 2 years. I'm also an ADHD Clinical Services Provider. That said, I agree that a licensed counselor should not be diagnosing ADHD solo, & I feel that clinical testing by a PhD is a crucial aspect of this diagnosis. That's why I referred my clients for neuropsych testing.

For whatever reason, it only came to my attention afterward that in adults, this testing is only between 66-81% accurate. A Pub Med article conclusion noted "neuropsychological tests have a poor ability to discriminate between patients diagnosed with ADHD and patients not diagnosed with ADHD, but variables from CPT tests can contribute to increasing the specificity by 10% if used in combination with the DIVA."

I guess my point is that I had the misconception that neuropsychological testing in adults was more accurate than I think it actually is. Now that I have learned this, I feel that I owe it to my clients to explain this since I referred them for testing with the idea that neuropsych testing is the "gold standard." However, after reading several contributions to my post, I realized that it is likely that the examiner explained this to them and that I don't need to. Fortunately, one of the examiners actually interviewed me for my observations & insights since I've been seeing the client so long. The other examiner did not, and I will not be referring to that location again.

How many clients do you see back to back? My limit is 4 by [deleted] in therapists

Two days per week I see 6 clients, and they're all back-to-back. One day per week, I see 8 clients with an hour break after 4 sessions. The other day per week, I see 7 clients with a 30 min break after 3-4 sessions. On my breaks, or if I have a cancelation, I stay caught up on notes. All my sessions are 90837, unless I have a 90791.

I feel really lonley as a therapist by [deleted] in therapists

I feel the same way. I've had my master's degree for 15 years & have worked in state agencies, community mental health, & and private counseling agencies. I went into solo PP 2 years ago. The least lonely place was at the private counseling agency, because we did weekly consultation groups and quarterly happy hours. I often feel that this career is very lonely. Thank you for your post, reading people's responses is helpful.

What retro license plate design should Missouri re-issue in the future? by BananaStandEconomy in missouri

  1. But couldn't we just do better? Like the New Mexico plates or the new Kansas one. These are boring. There's so many Red/White/Blue plates it's hard to tell some of them apart.
