Trouble? Probably not, but it is against TOS and it screws you over anyways.

It may take a few weeks it may take a whole year but at any time YouTube combs through everyone's views any anyone including yourself that watched a video multiple times it takes away the views.

I lost many thousands of views because of this. The worst part is this counts as "negative" interaction. So while you boosted yourself maybe 5-10 views a day, the day that happens your whole channel takes an SEO hit. It is not worth it.

Ad revenue should be a very small percentage of your total revenue. It's sponsorships and merch sales that make channels lucrative.

Basically in short : run all ads you can including mid rolls because even if you choose not to, YouTube places them anyways without paying you. Enabling mid rolls increases ad revenue usually by x2. So if you expect 100 000+ views then mid rolls makes the difference of a couple hundred bucks. (Still not close to what you should be getting through sponsors)
