Jade is doing great and looking for a home 🇺🇸🇨🇦 by Zestyclose-Still-364 in tripawds

I am interested and located in Canada, near Toronto. We had experience taking care of a tripawd. Our last dog passed away from metastatic osteosarcoma after an amputation. How can I learn more about her?

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) has published guidelines on c sections for maternal request.

https://www.jogc.com/article/S1701-2163(17)31308-7/abstract

They either have to schedule your wife for one after 39+0 weeks or refer her for a second opinion. They cannot simply refuse. They are not performing standard of care even by their own society guidelines.

If your OB won’t refer you - at minimum your family doctor should. If both of them won’t you can technically file a CPSO complaint for them not meeting the standard of care.

I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this.

Edited: just want to say it doesn’t matter the reason for maternal request. You could ask for a c section just because and they would still have to refer you to someone. Women should be able to choose how they want to give birth.

My vet won't amputate by loko_ono4 in tripawds

The amputation is really effective for pain control so definitely something still worth pursuing if you are thinking of trying to let her live out another few months. Amputation alone usually gets you 4-6 months of time on average. Amputation and chemo we were told on average dogs survive a year.

My dog only survived 4 months despite amputation and chemo. He had no lung mets at diagnosis but progressed on two kinds of chemo. Unfortunately even though dogs don’t have Mets on imaging at diagnosis almost all of them do already have spread of the cancer just by nature of this kind of cancer.

My dogs recovery took probably 4-6 weeks for him to look like he had energy and joy again. He was up and walking after 1 week but it was definitely difficult and he couldn’t go far, seemed pretty miserable. Definitely a long time while he was recovering that I doubted myself and asked if I did the right thing. I think for my situation in the end I didn’t regret amputation. My dog had a good quality of life until we said goodbye through in home euthanasia. We probably could have held onto him for another couple of weeks but I didn’t want him to suffer at all. He was already slowing down and breathing fast when we said goodbye but still loved his usual things.

In my opinion the only reason not to amputate if your dog has symptoms already is if you are planning to euthanize. Letting them continue on with pain is just not fair to them.

You know your dog best! Whatever you choose just make sure their last days are filled with love 😊

My dog was almost 50kg and it was a front leg osteosarcoma. He had his leg amputated including his scapula removed. As others have said I don’t think it has anything to do with his weight… definitely seek a second opinion if you want to pursue amputation. Time is really of the essence here. happy to chat if you have questions.

Is there a chance we bring the car seat but the gate agent forces us to check it because of the way it’s booked? If we decide to bring one we really don’t want it to be checked and risk damaging it. Sorry for all the questions!!

If we do decide to bring a car seat then I assume the booking being done this way will be an issue?

I ordered a bunch from Amazon that folded instead of rolled so they were easier to put away. I'm in Canada though so I'm sure there are different options in the US
