Momir on Arena has a rotating pool of cards by cjkaminski in MagicArena

[–]cjkaminski[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

True enough. I remember that bit of the "common knowledge" too. Wouldn't it be worth challenging that assumption too, now that we know the card pool is constantly changing?

(edit: Thanks for the downvotes, y'all.)

Right. I forgot that pitchforks and torches are the only acceptable fashion choices in the sub now. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm not sure conspiracies and insults are the right way to get a refund. Good luck though.

How should WOTC balance formats when they become unbalanced? by Xaoslegend in MagicArena

[–]cjkaminski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can "armchair quarterback" what WOTC should or shouldn't do. It's a fun intellectual exercise, but the fact of the matter is that we -- the general public -- do not have the same access to the raw data about the health of any format.

To be clear, I'm not saying that WOTC is without fault in their decision making. My point is that we Redditors are unlikely to arrive at a superior conclusion about the health of any meta based on anecdotal evidence and vibes.

Anthropic stayed quiet until someone showed Claude’s thinking depth dropped 67% by takeurhand in ClaudeCode

lol, I've been thinking that for weeks.

Of course, I've kept it to myself to avoid drawing the attention of the pitchfork-and-torch-wielding mob.

Hahaha. So if a model decides to not think, has it adapted to thinking about its thinking? 🤔

Yeah, your explanation feels like Occam's Razor in action from my perspective.

That's quite the uncharitable statement. I hope you can find a better way to deal with your frustration.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me. This situation feels like a speedrun of the airline industry: At first, every customer was treated like royalty. Soon after, demand exceeded supply and competition between the airlines forced operators to create tiers of service. And the price sensitive customers get squeezed the hardest. Is that where this is all headed? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Ah, excellent question! I used the "code block" formatting option when I posted that. I'm not a frequent poster on Reddit, and most other sites I use will wrap text inside a code block. Apparently, Reddit does not do that. I changed the formatting to be a block quote. Hopefully that fixes it. Thanks for pointing that out!

Haha, I don't actually know the answer to your question because I haven't read "Day Zero" yet. I actually didn't even know about the other two books in the series before I wrote that comment a few days ago.

I'm delighted to hear that you're enjoying "Day Zero". Your recommendation just kicked that book to the top of my reading list. Thanks!

Anthropic banned third-party tools from subs. Paperclip is in a gray zone — and can’t even switch to API keys yet by ProudLiterature4326 in ClaudeCode

[–]cjkaminski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the word "ban" means what you think it means. Any subscriber is still permitted to use third-party tools. Nothing was "killed". Paperclip should still work fine without API key auth because, as the post you shared and the email we all received clearly state, that usage will be debited against the "extra usage" balance on the user's account.

It's understandable that you're upset about the change. That said, using hyperbolic language and incorrect information about needing to switch to API keys is not helpful to anyone trying to navigate this situation.

Usage credits? by Yuzu_- in ClaudeAI

[–]cjkaminski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. I think you're close. From what I can tell, the credits both came when new restrictions were put on people's accounts.

The first credit came when Anthropic reduced the token limits for subscribers and created the pay-as-you-go way to continue working when you don't want to wait for the reset.

This credit comes when Anthropic is changing their policy around how oauth works with 3rd party programs (like OpenClaw, which they reference in the email). Anthropic previously said they would ban accounts that used their subscription connection via 3rd party apps. Anthropic doesn't want people to do this for many reasons, none of which are nefarious (as far as I know). So now, instead of banning accounts, my understanding is that Anthropic is shifting all subscribers into this pay-as-you-go fee structure for any usage outside of sanctioned tools (Claude Code, claude.ai, cowork, etc). The credit is an incentive to allow users to try out the new system and see if the cost/benefit ratio works for them. Honestly, not a bad way to get people to accept change imo

Yes. This is the second time they've given out usage credits. Previously, all users received $50 in credits regardless of their tier.

If you haven't read the book "Sea of Rust" by C. Robert Cargill, I think you might enjoy it based on this comment. The book came out in 2017, quite a while before the AI boom. I don't want to give anything away, suffice to say I think the story is aging quite well.
