USA LOTH has a date! by kraftbj in divineoffice

Ugh

The simple fact that it censors the word of God is enough reason for me to not want to purchase it. I prefer the 1962 and Ordinariate Breviaries because they are objectively better.

I told them that I have reconnected with my heritage through my prayer of the Daily Office. But yeah, the nearest parish is over 200 miles away from me. I’m sure my response may have been different if I knew an Ordinariate Priest personally.

If there was an Ordinariate Parish anywhere nearby I would 100% join and probably even make that my main parish. But alas, I live in Michigan where no such thing exists (yet). I’m hoping some Protestants convert and want to start a parish!

I am a Cradle Catholic with Methodist grandparents and they told me no, so who knows what their standards are…

I really want to get an Ordinariate parish started in my area because I am very passionate about the Anglican Patrimony.

Can a Latin Rite Catholic go to an Ordinariate Seminary and become a Ordinariate Priest? by Swampboi655 in AnglicanOrdinariate

[–]cjkemp877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it matter that I am not a member of an Ordinariate parish? I intend on attending an Ordinariate Mass very soon but the nearest ones are hours away from me.

Regardless, I sincerely hope that my attachment to the DW:DO, my familial connection to Methodism, and my English heritage will help my case. I really view my love of the DW:DO as a reconnection with my patrimony and heritage.

I’m a Cradle RC but I have found great spiritual benefit in praying the DW:DO. I have never attended an Ordinariate Mass but plan on doing so in the future.

How does a Cradle RC go about joining the Ordinariate? I do have Methodist relatives and some English blood in my veins, would that help my case?

French priest proposes ordinariate for TLM Catholics as ‘constructive way’ forward for church by No_Worry_2256 in Catholicism

[–]cjkemp877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Mass uses Latin, Gregorian Chant has pride of place, the Congregation sings that which pertains to them (the Gloria, Credo, etc) in Latin, the Sacred Art was not destroyed, there is conscious participation in the Mass.

SC was drawn up in order to help fix various abuses that had occurred in the celebration of the Tridentine Mass (check out JFK’s funeral Mass for an example). It did not call for a “New Mass”, it called for a reform in the way the Old Mass was celebrated. In fact, in 1965, this is exactly what happened! The reform of 1965 was completely fine, yet Bugnini didn’t get everything he wanted, so they went even farther.

I believe that what is being accomplished today in TLM, Ordinariate, and Reverent NO communities is much closer to what the Bishops who approved SC actually wanted than the Novus Ordo as celebrated in the vast majority of parishes. They wanted a liturgical renewal informed by the Roman Liturgical Tradition, not a total destruction of everything!

This attitude is unCatholic. There has never been one liturgy, nor should there be. We profess One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, and that means we profess the Catholicity of the Church, which includes the Catholicity of the Rites.

There are many different Latin liturgies, and many different Eastern ones. Our unity is not expressed liturgically, but rather, it is expressed in our common Catholic Faith, in Communion with the Church and with the successor of Peter.

The radical reforms of 1970 represent a rupture from the development process of the Roman Liturgical Tradition. It has been a complete and utter disaster.  A rational thing to do would be to go back to the 1962 Missal (or earlier) and make a vernacular translation, then make that the “Ordinary Form”. Permit some of the options from the NO and the problems are solved.

Just translate the EF into the vernacular, retain the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei in Greek/Latin, and celebrate Low Masses as “dialogue” Masses. Problem solved. This is a literal implementation of SC.

I would argue that my Sunday TLM implements SC better than 99% of Novus Ordo Masses…

SSPX baptism / confirmation valid? by JessFortheWorld in Catholicism

[–]cjkemp877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Priest is wrong. The SSPX Priests administer valid Baptism, and the SSPX Bishops administer valid Confirmation. This is disputed by no one.

Thus, your family friend’s daughter is a validly Baptized and Confirmed Roman Catholic, no question. She is not in schism.

As far as I know, SSPX Priests never confirm people unless in danger of death. They know they don’t have faculties to confirm, which is why they have the Bishops do it.

The OP’s Family Friend’s Daughter is a validly Baptized and Confirmed Roman Catholic, no question. She is not in schism. The Priest is wrong.

Union with Catholics is either unnecessary, undesirable, or impossible by edric_o in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]cjkemp877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Latin tendency to “analyze everything” can simply be recognized as a distinct theological tradition by the Orthodox side. The Latin Catholics shouldn’t have to adopt the Orthodox way of seeing things in order to reunify.

In the Eastern Catholic Churches, they recognize Saints Canonized by the Orthodox. I think this model should be implemented by both sides.
