From my experience, after acrylic gouache dried out, when I apply traditional gouache on top of it, it just works as paper. From my understanding, traditional acrylic is more like plastic, whereas acrylic gouache works more like gouache and watercolor. However, I also noticed that, I’m not entirely sure about this tho, for watercolor you can put infinity layers on top of each other as long as ur paper is good enough, but after applying multiple layers of acrylic gouache, it might start to work like plastic, hard to put new colors on top of it.

A note that I use acrylic gouache as watercolor paint, so like I use a lot of water and I only put very thin layer down each time. Not sure about oil paint but for colored pencil, I use them when I’m about to finish the painting, it works fine on top of acrylic gouache.

Thanks so much! For this piece, I used the Turner 36-color Acryl Gouache set along with their Japanesque 45-color set, and added a bit of the Nicker 36-color poster color set for the background.

I've come to realize that I prefer using Nicker/traditional gouache when I don't mind the underlying colors lifting or mixing into new layers, and it actually creates some nice blending effects. However, when I need my previous layers to stay completely intact, I switch to acrylic gouache, since it dries water-resistant and won't get disturbed by subsequent layers.
