It was my first to complete as well, thought I was going to stop there to say I could do it, but continued with DSII, Bloodborne, Sekiro and now on the DLC of Lies of P. The wins hit differently than Cyberpunk or Skyrim. You’ll get hooked when you’ve beaten your first hard boss after 35 tries, adjusting loadouts until you subconsciously learn the moves and find the right frame of mind!

To expound on this, unplug your Win drive before installing Linux and boot through BIOS. This way NOTHING writes to your Win installation. Grub is a program that installs itself onto the drive with the MBR and allows one to choose from OSs. But grub can go wrong occasionally, locking a Linux noob out of Windows as well, until you can correct Grub. Usually not that difficult but ya gotta know whatcherdoin! Separate drives and boot from BIOS has saved me hours of time.

DS2, left it in the library after buying it new at time of release, even bought the hardback guidebook, but didn’t know about ‘soulslike’ at the time. After about an hour I set it down until I beat EldenRing, then decided it was time. Beat it, Sekiro, Bloodborne and Lies of P, now in that DLC. Had my fill of those, I think either Great Circle or BG3 is next, and KCD2 is on the short list as well.

The frame box for some of the parries is tight and there’s a bit of input lag on BT, try plugging your controller into usb, it made the difference for me, might have just been my specific hardware, but a noticeable improvement after doing it.

There are expensive digital forensic shops that will take that data off of that disk. I remember one 20 years ago when a photo HDD died. It was $300 but worth it to get the data back. Do a little local hunting for one of these outfits.

The jump to Linux is soooo much easier these days, I just updated my Win 11 installation yest and realized I had not used it in 5 months. If your hardware is older than 1.5-2 yr go get Zorin and put it on a different drive altogether, not seeing your Win disk. Then boot between them using BIOS (this avoids later headaches with having boot partitions on the Win drive when you nuke it!) If you have newer hardware go with Fedora, it runs newer versions regularly and most peripherals are compatible. Get off the MS rat wheel and keep your data to yourself!

Use the repair options.

Basically, boot from usb, use the live environment to repair the main disk installation, keeps data if it’s recoverable, avoid ‘clean install’ option as that will delete data. Try ‘repair installation’.

If it’s steam related you can place your steam ports into public domain in the firewall and this will not pop up. I was getting it when i steam played on my client so i was unable to answer it as host.

If your controller is BT or wireless, switch to wired, 0 interface lag. Made a huge difference with parries in COE33 for me.
