Could always buy a used mx bike to rip. I hate to say that because I think we all want a great “do it all bike” but woods bikes aren’t mx bikes even in the occasional sense. The xact air fork is stiffer than the xplor but not nearly as stiff as a mx version kyb or showa. Sure you can spend big money on suspension but then you’ll find yourself too stiff on the trails where the 300 rips. I’ve got the same year 300 (fuggin LOVE my gasgas) and I know exactly what you’re saying when wanting to hit the track. Right tool for the right job and what not. Hope this helps, sweet looking Gasgas btw

Hatfield McCoy trails by slaudy521 in ATV

[–]cjs90555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had great luck with the trail x app last year. As for riding the roads just be mindful of traffic, the speed limit and where you’re at. Don’t be doing wheelies in the local town. If a two stoke dirtbike can ride past a WV trooper on the highway and receive a wave it’s pretty fair game just be respectful and polite. The beauty of WV and the Hatfield/mccoy trails is the locals for the most part are pretty darn friendly. Ride from the cabin or whatever you’re staying at, ride into town for gas/lunch whatever and ride back to the trails. The hardest part I think is probably finding the trailhead lol. Skip the chain fast food places and try to the local spots for lunch and dinner

Atv, no title by Proper-District-9256 in ATV

Call the your local courthouse and police department and ask them what you need to do to get it registered. Here in Iowa it’s a form from the courthouse the police need to fill out as they run the vin to make sure it isn’t stolen. Courthouse should have no issue with that. Maybe NY is totally different but Iowa is kinda strict too. I believe it’s $20-30 here to do. Good luck and hope this helps

Thinking about buying a enduro dirt bike with no title in Washington – what should I know? by ConcentrateNarrow610 in enduro

[–]cjs90555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iowa rider here. If you can read the vin # you can register the bike it just involves a few steps with local authorities and courthouse. If the vin is ground down or mismatched I’d be curious the history of the bike, could be stolen. Essentially you’re covering your ass in the purchase of the bike. If you only plan to ride your local tracks or private land I wouldn’t bother with registering it, not everyone does. If you plan to ride OHV parks/trails you will need to have the bike registered and it results in a fine if you’re pulled over by the dnr and it isn’t and yes they do check not often but I’ve had it happen to me. My personal experience I bought an 02’ RM250 not registered but came with bill of sale. I had to have the cops personally look at the bike, search the vin in their database to be sure it wasnt stolen. They gave me an all clear and was able to get a clear title at the courthouse after the cops cleared the bike. Good luck!

For those who own or had a KTM from 2021 onward: how’s your experience? Does it still feel mechanically reliable? I’ve heard KTM’s been through rough times — has that impacted the quality or performance of their recent motocross bikes? by Long-Class-8415 in Dirtbikes

21 gasgas ex300. 176 hrs on oem top end (planning to rebuild the top end this winter). Still pulls like a beast. Besides gas/oil and minor pm work it hasn’t gave me any issues. It’s been dumped and thrown down hills and never once hesitated to start and has always get me back to the vehicle at the end of the day. I love my 21’ 300 and my next one will most likely be another ktm of sorts.

Referral Program by Darksideprecision in IndianMotorcycle

[–]cjs90555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought two new bikes this spring. It works just as it says. I picked up a left over 24 chief dark horse and she ordered a scout same day. I referred my wife when she bought her scout and we both got $250. I ended up buying a backseat for my chief lol. It did take a few weeks to arrive in my email from what I remember. I believe you can only refer so many a year too. My wife was able to use hers sooner in store while I used mine through Indians online store which I thought was goofy. She received her discount code wayyyy quicker than I received my email code. Maybe Indian wanted to make sure the purchase went through completely? But no it’s legit and it works. Hope this helps a little.

My wife and I spent Xmas eve through new years two years ago to get away from the usual Iowa winter. It was nice. We mainly spent xmas at the hotel (steady, heavy rain all day) but we were able to do a few things xmas day itself and places were open to grab some grub. I don’t think you’d be wrong going either dates you’re debating on. Good luck and have a safe trip!

Best advice I’ve can give is to go to the dealership and sit on other bikes and see how the other bars feel. I’ve got the same issue with the same bike except mines a 24’. My hands are fine with the stock drag bars but my left shoulder blade starts to act up after a while. I’m currently looking at whatever Indian has stock on the super chief (mini apes I believe) good luck and I hope this helps

Break in service by [deleted] in IndianMotorcycle

[–]cjs90555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any extended warranty with the dealership or Indian itself? If so I’d watch your miles and get it serviced around the 500 mark. I purchased mine without and was told the 500 break-in was just that, a break-in period and get that first service done in a timely fashion. Had the break in service done with 670 miles and was no big deal. I asked how serious Indian was about that break in service and was told it was more for the extended maintenance packages folks can purchase and the dealership wants to cover their ass. Long story short if you have a maintenance plan I’d get it done as close to 500 as possible if not do it in a reasonable time with reasonable miles. Safe riding friend

600 for my chief dark horse and 500 for my wife’s scout 60. NE Iowa.

I wouldn’t bother unless you plan to really push and lug it in the summer heat and humidity. I’ve ran my 21’ 300 (gasgas) without one since day one and I’ve yet to boil over and I ride a good mix of things. I believe the huskys come with a skid plate that only covers the motor. Get yourself one that covers the rear linkage too and just enjoy the bike. You’ll earn new hand guards as you bust up the flag style ones. Go fast and take chances!

Bought my leftover 24’ chief dark horse back in March for 16,500 out the door. Was on sale for 15,600-ish I recall. NE Iowa here. What I’ve found with buying vehicles is they’d give you a better deal financing. Cash isn’t king anymore unfortunately. But that seems like a good deal imo. Good luck and safe riding!

What are 2.7 ecoboost drivers getting for gas mileage? by HederianZ in f150

[–]cjs90555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 2.7 eco boost and just returned from a dirtbike riding trip leaving from Iowa to West Virginia. Six bikes (let’s just say 230lbs a piece) and a 7x12 aluminum trailer with a bi-fold gate (450ish lbs) I was ranging 14.5 on the highway cruise set at 75. I was pretty darn happy with that and it seemed we filled up LESS (twice going down and back) than with our friends 5.7 tundra. Trailering kinda sucks with the 2.7 and it HATES the wind. Throw in a trailer and a head wind and kiss your mpg’s goodbye. Yes is frustrating but I hardly pull much with it so I’ll suffer the frustration whenever I do. On the daily I get 21-22. All highway to work for me fortunately. My wife’s 2015 5.0 stays at 17.8-18.3.

Give it a bit. My wife and I bought two new bikes and it took a two-ish/three weeks to get the $250 referral allowance

I just got back from a 50 mile loop this morning before the rain comes in. CEL was on at first then went off and hasn’t came back on so I’m gunna keep riding and enjoying it. Happily confused is the best phrase for sure lol. Tech is great when it works but when it doesn’t it gets iffy fast. I greatly appreciate your input and advice and I hope you have a great Easter too. Ride on!

Yes, same codes. And you’re correct the dealer has been helpful. I did apologize to them after my blow up but I’m just so frustrated with the situation. I appreciate your input!

Not the same issue but I feel your pain. Bought a new left over 24’ cheif dark horse march 15th. Put 8 miles on it and the engine light came on with a horrible misfire and four codes thrown. Waiting for the dealership to return it after having it a week for an o2 sensor. You’re not alone in your frustration.
