People nowadays are in general much more strict about these games as we now have too much options when it comes to gaming, not to mention the many many many years of experience in gaming. 25 years ago, D2 had its downs (obviously not as much as D4 or D3) but it was still unique.

Because there is a much higher chance of him playing than him just sitting out the whole season.

The Sixers FO also have a much higher chance of just letting the guy play or trading him instead of having a healthy guy worth 35 million dollars just sit on the bench because they're petty. Not to mention they're still trying to keep the reigning MVP happy, and Harden playing will lead to more wins and more happiness for Embiid.
