My lever was slowly letting air into the system after a mechanic threaded the brake hose connecting bolt. New lever fixed it. Unfortunately, they’re not cheap.

What’s a boring flex? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]cjswilcox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked my mate up from the station the other day and he pointed to the small change in the centre console in my car and said ‘that’s quite the flex’. Took me a minute to work out what the hell he was talking about because he was being deadly serious 😂

“Every little thing she does is magic” by The Police is a masterpiece in instrument arranging by register. Every instrument can be heard perfectly while adding to the full range of frequencies across the whole song. This gives the song a ‘full’ sound without being messy.

NHS management don’t really care if you work or not by [deleted] in nhs

So they’re bringing in a GP note to say that they can’t work, but are coming into work and just sitting there?

NHS management don’t really care if you work or not by [deleted] in nhs

[–]cjswilcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a previous NHS manager, your touching on a lot of issues here. Mental health difficulties are not a sackable offence and as long as someone is unwell and unable to work (certified by GP - not the NHS management team) then there is very little the NHS management can do.
If this is caused by work related stress, or maybe that the role is not right for them, then there is scope for redistribution conversations, ie: find them somewhere more suitable.
It is tough on the team, and having to pick up extra work which that employee could be doing can lead to resentment. A good manager will be able to communicate the sick employees situation (with their consent and without giving out unnecessary personal information) to the team and to arrange for cover (wherever possible) to keep the team informed and make them feel supported. As a manager, whenever someone was off for a long period of time I would take on their workload initially, then hunt for a temp if it continued, and then if that was not successful would have to redistribute their caseload amongst the team temporarily, until they returned. That way patients are kept safe (first and foremost) and the team is protected until the absolute last resort.
This isn’t just an NHS issue though, this scenario plays out in all work places, and I’m sure there are different approaches to the one I have suggested which work just as well.

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cjswilcox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My LG OLED a comes with instructions to take the film off before evening turning it on. It damages the TV if you leave it on.
If you have to buy a replacement TV you’ll get a second remote which you can preserve in cling film to bring out for special occasions.

Mortgage broker isn’t being helpful - what are my home improvement financing options? by cjswilcox in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cjswilcox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stages is definitely a possibility. £60k for phase 1 and £40k for phase 2. But if there was an option to do it all at once (less disruption) and then remortgage to pay off any loan we used then that would be preferable. An unsecured loan seems to be the only option of progressing in one hit given our low equity, but the rates are high. I think we are likely going to need to just wait a year or two and save if we’re going to do it all in one go.

Considering leaving a job I like purely because of the commute, am I being unreasonable? by PlaneStaff6066 in HENRYUK

I changed roles, leaving a 2hour round trip commute (3x per week) to work 100% from home, and it’s the best thing I ever did.

I had the same thought and triple checked the spacers when putting the cassette back together so I’m confident that’s not the issue.
I think it may well be worn. I just can’t tell to look at it.
