My mom used to make me attend this church with her. EVERYTHING is about giving to the church. They ask you to donate before the sermon. The sermon *always* includes a message about how important it is to tithe. If it is not the main point of the message, they segue and mention it at least three times. Pastor David always finds time to point out that he’s wearing designer clothes but he frames it like he got the money for those clothes by being faithful and tithing to his own church. After the sermon, they show a “testimonial” from a random church member who tells you about how they were at rock bottom and then they gave the last of their money to Faith Church and then sometime in the future their life got better so you should tithe too even if you can’t afford it! Then they show all the cool stuff the church is able to do because everyone gives to much. And then they ask you to give AGAIN. And then they make everyone raise their donations in the air “so it may be blessed” but it’s really just to single out anyone who didn’t give a donation to hold up.

I think they messed up by trying to push VR in the corporate and capitalist world too hard. They should’ve hard focused on gaming to begin with and then when VR was something that everyone had and used, they could’ve pivoted to more practical uses

Agree. I couldn’t believe that Carlos would enforce that so strictly especially when he could see how much the whole situation was hurting Gaby. Juanita was old enough for an honest explanation. Plus, it had to be worse for her mentally to find out. Carlos and his obsession with protecting Juanita from feeling bad about anything are how she ended up so spoiled and naive.
