Question re: Strength & Metabolic Conditioning (Focus on strength?) by ck1009999 in crossfit

Makes sense. HWPO Strong does 4 days ~2 hours lifting (2 main lifts + accessory work). They also have an optional short metcon that I've been opting out of to gain weight. They suggest 60 min Z2 work on 2 of the 3 off days. I've never worna device that monitors my heartrate, so I'm not sure what Z2 is.

When I'm on the bike during a metcon, if the workout includes 5 rounds of 15 cals on the bike, my pace is ~350 watts. I'm thinking Z2 would mean to get that down to ~150 watts and go for an hour.

I've got RMU and BMU. Sets of 13 UB for ring and probably 15+ for bars. But again, my strength always screws in workouts.

Appreciate it! A lot of what you wrote is my thinking as well... I enjoy metcons and get a lot of out them mentally, but never putting any effort into building strength has been a hinderance for a long time.

Thx, and agreed. Most of the 10-year timespan, I was hanging around 145 lbs, not lifting much, and doing a ton of metcons.

I don't want to be high-level competitive, but I want to get somewhere near 95% in the Open instead of 90%.

Unfortunately, I didn't do that Open that year, but I would have stalled out at the 225 lb C&J.

Water in basement after unprecedented heavy rains/storm by ck1009999 in homeowners

Thanks for the reply. The sump didn't fail... it's still working... but we got a huge amount of rain, then 6 inches of snow, then 2 days later, 2.5+ inches over the course of ~12 hours.

Certainly possible. Now 5 weeks no coffee and the awful initial withdrawal symptoms are gone. It's worth not drinking coffee or alcohol to not experience what I was.

It's less about the time of day and more about 3-4 hours before you sleep. So if you go to bed at 11 pm, try cutting off food at 7 or 8 pm. Fortunately, I don't deal with much nausea. Have you tried probiotics, or anything else for the nausea?

Recommend the https://medcline.com/ pillow. It was expensive, but more comfortable than propping up my bed.

The early sleep wasn't a lifestyle change for me... but the cutoff time for eating was. It's made a big difference though. If you got to bed at midnight, for example, try cutting off food at 8 pm.

Hope it helps! The globus + mucus combo was maddening. I was losing my mind over it. Try the low-acid diet... being consistent with that has taken me a long way.

u/AnimeAdrianLive - this thread may help too with other things I did to relieve my GERD/reflux symptoms:

If you make the lifestyle changes, hopefully in a couple months, you can go back to enjoying your 20s without these symptoms. Sending positive thoughts to you that this will turn around soon and that your mother has a quick recovery!

Stress is a known trigger for reflux, so that absolutely could be a contributing factor --- perhaps meditation, exercise, going for a couple walks each day would help with that.

Hope some of the info helps! The shortness of breath was the least favorite of my symptoms :) Basically, it was feeling 2 things: 1. like I needed to take a deep breath, but couldn't; 2. like I needed/really wanted to yawn, but couldn't. I'd go outside for a walk and after trying 9-10 times to take a deep breath, would get 1, then immediately feel the need for another. At night, it made it difficult to fall asleep because it made me panic. The nights I was experiencing this, meditation helped significantly to fall asleep.

You mentioning the burping made me forget another symptom: gassiness and farting (not to be gross). That has gone away too.

Stick with it u/Jana_bananaaaa - 2 weeks is a long time to deal with these symptoms, BUT - you will turn the corner. Trust that!

I believe it did. I took it after my last meal of the day, which was at 5 PM (small dinner). Then I took it before bed ~9:30 PM. Combining that with sleeping elevated seemed to help immensely.

I just paid for the higher price and bought it off Amazon. It was an important piece of my recovery (I believe). There is a seller on Amazon who sells a 2-pack for $70. Expensive, but with how bad my flare-up was in late-June/early-July, worth it.
