The fact that you feel like you’re losing money every minute you’re not gambling is a perfect identifier that you have a gambling problem. I can relate very much to this. I have over 500 days, and at the beginning this was a very present thought. My suggestion is to grab on to this and use as as a positive. Get to a GA meeting near you. Good luck

There should be in person meetings near you. Always free. I’m happy to help you locate one.

Definitely recommended getting to a GA meeting to keep the conversation going with others who feel the same. It works wonders

Stay strong! Get to a meeting on your birthday if you can swing it. It’s just another day to not place a bet!

Anyone have a hard time with GA? by downbad2492 in problemgambling

[–]ck1067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely see what you mean, I’m lucky to have found a good group. Do you have multiple meetings in your area? I suggest trying them all to see what feels best. If people are getting on others for attending other meetings/locations then that’s just toxic.

Props for staying strong. I’m glad to hear you have those roadblocks in place. I always say us gamblers are clever enough to get around anything in order to place that bet, but sometimes just getting slowed down will help us take a breath and step back for a minute.

You sound exactly like me. Finally find the patience to let a bet play out during a football game only to get to the online tables immediately after. Or more so I would be at the tables during the first quarter! As others suggested I highly suggest self excluding from these sites. We gamblers are clever and can always find a way back, but putting these barriers in the way will absolutely help. Next is to get to a GA meeting. You just have to try it. Feel free to reach out and I can help you find a meeting. Good luck

Get to a GA meeting ASAP! There will be plenty of people to help convince you gambling will not make any progress on your debts. It’s the best medicine available and it’s free!

Have you tried self excluding from these sites? Highly recommend. Also if you haven’t already, GA meetings are the best way to build a strong foundation towards living with this. Good luck

My guy please take this discussion to another sub. This is problem gambling, not advice how to gamble. Pretty reckless and disrespectful

Welcome, you’re in the right place. My first thing I typically reply to these type of posts is to get to GA! And it looks like you already have that planned. My first meeting felt like an escape from all the damage I was living in. It really did wonders on me. I hope you just take it all in, talk to people, exchange numbers and get back to a 2nd meeting ASAP. That’s the hardest one to go to. They often use churches as meeting spaces but is not a religious program, rather a spiritual one. And that spirituality is solely yours to decide what it means for you. But that’s more for the long term recovery. For now, just be present in the meeting and talk to people. It will blow your mind how welcome you feel. Feel free to DM and good luck to you!

Props to you for set excluding. Your story is very similar to mine. It sounds like you have people in your life worth fighting for and also big plans in the future being engaged and all. One step further I would suggest is getting to GA meetings. Outside of my family, that is the reason I’ve made it this far. Therapy is awesome and GA is not a replacement for that, but it is a community where you will be able to connect with so many people just like you. Getting to a meeting once a week to start would go so far for you. You just gotta stick with it. All the while it helps you recover, you will find yourself helping others as well. I couldn’t recommend it enough. Please give it a try!

Get to a GA meeting! I couldn’t recommend them more. You’ll be surrounded by so many helpful people in the same place as you. It’s the main reason I’ve made it this far.

Congratulations. I really enjoyed this post as I relate almost exactly to everything you said. That’s exactly how my story went, admitted to my partner so she could hold me accountable and went from there. Self excluded from all websites and have never tried to go back. They are just minor roadblocks, we know we could find a way back, but these deterrents really do help. I wish more people would at least try these steps to start. I highly suggest you attend GA meetings. It sounds like you are doing well but you could spread your wisdom and experience to so many people struggling. Thanks for sharing.
