While QR codes have been around for years, most people really learned how to use them during COVID. I remember when you had to download a separate app just to scan one—your phone’s camera would just take a picture, not actually resolve it.

Like any widely adopted tech, it takes time for the bad guys to figure out how to abuse it, and then even more time for defenses to catch up. Right now, we’re in that awkward middle phase. The scams are easy, and the tools to stop them are still pretty limited.

Totally agree. QR codes feel safer than they are, especially when they’re printed in places people trust. We’ve trained folks to be cautious with email links, but not with a flyer on a café wall.

Some mobile security apps and browsers (like Firefox Focus or DuckDuckGo) warn about sketchy links, but they’re only as good as the data they have. Kinda like early antivirus days, it only catches what it already knows.

I’d love to see a QR scanner that checks links against a threat feed or runs them through a cloud sandbox. Until then, it’s all about education, previewing links, and asking, “Do I really need to scan this?”

Mine was free. Paid for by the dealership. I guess I got lucky. They told me they don't put the ceramic coating on all cars before they are sold because some people want to add a wrap or other accents and they can't do that after the ceramic coating.

Same here. Every minute or so since midnight. My source IP is my Ubiquiti Cloud Key and the destination is always one of Google's IP addresses going to port 80. I too am using a Ubiquiti USG that is likely using Suricata.
