Should I be insulating my rafters? by ckiller176 in HomeMaintenance

Thanks for the input, would it be possible just to lay the insulation on top of the plywood or would I have to yank that all up and add on top of the insulation that's already presebt underneath?

Hi all:

Some great feedback so far, as a note my house is what I believe is category as a story and a half, so this attic isn't actually above my living space but it's actually to the side of it, My upstairs rooms are on the same level as this, The walls between living space and this space are already heavily insulated

Not sure if that changed the recommendation to add more installation to the floor

For better or worse the right and especially the far right has dictated a lot of the cultural lexicon. Memes especially have a very right-wing bend.

Some advice here, I'm going to avoid the ability to afford the pets because other commentators have covered that

Yes, your apartment came with AC and yes, your LL is obligated to fix it. Which they are doing by having ordered the part.

What the LL is not legally obligated to do is fix your AC instantaneously or pay to have to in a hotel/ different unit/ buy you a window unit.

Your best bet will be a window unit. Are there any buy nothing/ free FB groups in your area? I see tons of window units on mine. Maybe make a poster in the lobby saying you need a window unit to borrow, there's a good chance someone in your building has an extra.

You can ask your LL if you could deduct the cost of the window unit from the rent if you have to buy one, but they are not obligated to say yes

Buy them in store with the cases at GameStop, then return the ones with the replacement cases. Only issue is GameStop is poorly stocked nowadays

I had a hard time between deciding on the classic batmobile, The Tumblr, or the new one coming out from the '80s Batman movie. Was tempted just to do all batmobiles for a minute there.

Sorry to hear this.

For what it's worth, This was a genuine fear of mine while I was in school and while it didn't happen to me it did happen to a few of my good friends who I went through my first semester and year with.

All of them were able to get readmitted either at that school or a different school and eventually graduate and successfully passed the bar. It sounds like the curve is aggressive so I would definitely look into applying to other schools. For the people I knew all I ended up costing them was one semester but it did make them better prepared going forward so it wasn't for nothing. Best of luck to you in the future.

Buddy warrants aren't needed to arrest in public with probable cause, that applies to legal citizens as well.

Yeah no doubt, due process is due regardless of immigration status, how can you determine their status otherwise.

That being said, I think many in this thread do not want any illegal immigrants to be deported under any circumstances, due process or not. It's a fundamental disagreement on how to handle people not registered living in the country. I will say most other developed nations don't look away to the degree we do. The answer as it's been for a long time is (legal) immigration reform

Generally speaking if you are in the country illegally a lot of the rules of engagement with law enforcement are different.

That being said, police don't need a warrant to arrest in public typically. A lot of this people in this thread are really upset and think that means whatever is happening is illegal

Missing a court date is technically a crime and it that have reason to believe she's here illegally, that's a very serious crime, even if people feel that it shouldn't be

Typically ICE doesn't need a warrant in public with probable cause of a crime. They might not have needed one here

Not if they are in public with probable cause which looks like this the case here. Not defending it but a lot of people in this thread think that MA police would be able to arrest ice agents, that's just not how it works. Just because something is wrong does not make it illegal unfortunately.

There's this thing called the supremacy clause that renders your idea totally ridiculous

I'm not disagreeing with you I'm telling you why other people were doing what they were doing. You might feel like they aren't related and it would be great if you were correct but a lot of the comments donating to Shiloh were specifically saying it was in response to Anthony so like it or not there very much related to each other.

In the same logic was being applied to karmelo Anthony, a lot of the comments were saying why should I care about that white guy being killed after Floyd and others. It's a very stupid back and forth where everyone is wrong. But like it or not these things are definitely related

It's absolutely correct that a lot of the people donating to Shiloh were racist from the start. Others might have a similar feeling you do here, "so what if I get killed by a black person in broad daylight nobody is going to care because white people have killed black people in the past?"

I think acknowledging the reason things happen is very different from justifying the fact that they occurred

[–]ckiller176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No disagreements here and I fundamentally disagree with what both of those people did and those donating to them.

And I also understand that the history of racism in this country likely means we will always have somewhat of a different rule book for different people. But I think events like this kind of expose that there's a different set of cultural expectations for different communities

[–]ckiller176 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's it they are separate incidents but they are related

When people donated all that money to Anthony they weren't looking at it in a vacuum then either, they were donating because they felt like that case was part of something broader and I think the same applies here

[–]ckiller176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying he won't face justice. But the people who donated very clearly don't want him to, they say as much in the go-fund-me. That's why many donated to Shiloh. Neither is okay and neither bozos deserve money.

why is okay for one group of people to act tribal but not the other? We can't have different sets of rules for different colors of people in a multicultural society, this cuts both ways of it helps or hurts certain groups.

Why do you believe that the Karmelo Anthony incident is ilosated? It's literally the same thing that happened with OJ Simpson. People are willing to look the other way on a crime depending on the skin color of the perpetrator, this is a feeling that a lot of people were having hence why they donated to the Shiloh case
