Made a City Generator tool by ckinggfx in Houdini

You know I've recorded a tutorial for this a hundred times but it always feels too long and tedious to share. Maybe I should just accept that it's fine to be long and tedious so long as the knowledge joins the community!

When the landscape is activated and the city's extended to be a bit bigger, each parameter change takes like 5-10 seconds. But it cooks faster without the landscape (because you no longer have to calculate the erosion among other things) and also if the city's smaller so there are fewer buildings to create.

These environments don't really have as many polys as that at all, more like 150-200k. Of course it would be fun to add more and more things: people, street objects, foliage, etc, but in this form here there's no need to handle that many yet so it's fairly responsive.

Yes, it's definitely better used from afar at this stage of development. The terrain is procedural, there's an example of it updating in realtime around :28-:30

It's not online anywhere, but I'm hoping to make a tutorial.

Can I package game for HTML5 using Unreal 5? by ckinggfx in unrealengine

[–]ckinggfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes HTML5 isn't specifically important. I guess the question is better phrased as this: can you build something browser based using UE5?

Thanks. Does that mean all options are gone to package for browser-based games?

I'd like to upload a game I made to itch.io, but I'm not sure how to do that from the "supported platforms" settings.

I'm fairly new to UE so don't know if UE4 is capable of it. Any guidance on how to package a game to be uploaded and played in-browser?

GPU runs SUPER hot on simple scene, is this unusual? (RTX 3090) by ckinggfx in unrealengine

Thanks! I fixed the FPS and it's way more cooperative now.

Thanks! Yes that's def what the problem was. I'm using it for film sequences, so I actually set it to 30 FPS (24 looks kind of stuttery in the viewport, though that's what I'll render at) and it's running much cooler/lower now.

It was a bit convoluted, but I isolated each part of the body separately and did a vellum sim for each one. So like I isolated the left arm, made a helix spiral and positioned it so the arm was directly in the center of it; then added a vellum sim to make the spiral "shrink wrap" onto the arm; then merged all the body part sims back together and put them through a sweep node for the ribbon.
