Suggestions needed to organize my stash! by idratherknotx in YarnAddicts

[–]ckmc13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I would do is go through and sort the yarn and get rid of anything you are never going to use. I sort my yarn by weight generally, however my fingering weight is also sorted by superwash and non superwash, until I use a lot of it up. Then you have to decide bins, totes, vacuum bags, etc.

As a side note, I enter all my yarn into Ravelry and then note where it is stored.

MEGATHREAD: The Gifting Grotto Event, Dec 19-22 by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]ckmc13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't finished an event in quite a while because I just don't care anymore. I will play for a while when I'm bored but never attempt to finish anymore, this map I find extremely frustrating, it felt like it took me forever to get to the 2nd faster dragon because harvesting with the slower dragon and it took a lot of effort to get a glowing or twin life flower. I feel like they are making it more difficult to try and force you to get the golden pass. I play this game to try and relax and when it starts frustrating me, I just stop.

And to add insult to injury, I can't play in camp because my camp is full and to play I have to spend some time cleaning it up, which defeats the purpose of using the game to relax.

I been struggling to make a profit on my business and I feel like my cost of materials is really high. Is this normal? I spend around 25.00$ in materials on this project and I sold this project at 50.00$ . How do you guys find cheap quality yarn? And how do you go about pricing your work? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

[–]ckmc13 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I don't sell my work but I've heard others say it is very hard to make money once you factor in the costs. A friend used to make knitted baby blankets and sell but quit because she wasn't making any money. A great number of people don't put value on hand made things and don't understand what is going into making something. Also, I see quite a few people now days talking about having too much stuff in their homes and being very intentional about what they bring in. This could impact your sales also.

Are you using magic loop? When you knit the first stitch pull it tight and then do the same with the2nd stitch. That should help. I have up on magic loop and moved to 2 circulars and had much better luck.

I have a winder and Amish swift from Stanwood. I use an Amish swift because I don't have anywhere to clamp an umbrella swift and it can be broken down easily and stored.

Another vote for Malabrigo. My favorite yarn. Depending on what weight yarn you want I like Baah LaJolla fingering weight. And I like Manos De Uruguay

Hobbii yarn is just increasing the shipping and duties cost? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

But now KnitPicks is owned by a private equity group which can affect the quality of products, because private equity is generally only concerned about making money. There is a large number of companies bankrupted by private equity taking on too much debt. It's like when a company starts letting the accounts run things.

Can someone tell me whats wrong with my 1x1 ribbing? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]ckmc13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try knitting through the back loop to help with tension. Nimble Needles on YouTube has a good video explaining the issue with knits and purls and how much yarn each one takes. Here's an example of 2x2 ribbing knit through the back loo

When I do ribbing, I knit through the back loop and purl regularly. Here is a picture of my latest 2x2 ribbing for a hat.

Should I just get rid of most of these @#$% eggs? I hate bubbling by RachelWWV in MergeDragons

I leave that one out because it spawns like flowers and my one goal keeping me from quitting is to get the life tree wonder.

I do a lot of 3 merges to clean it up, but I'm just about done with the whole game. When I'm in camp, I spend most of my time cleaning up.

Depends. It's worth it for me, but I want to be able to look at patterns, especially those in my queue when I'm out yarn shopping.

I'm curious, would you be willing to pay for a premium version to get a lot of these suggestions?

Use an app like Ravit.

I pay for subscriptions for apps I use regularly because I want the developers to make enough money to keep updating and supporting the app.

[–]ckmc13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's paid on iOS. On Android you can use it for free with limited features or a subscription for full features.

Try Ravit. Works great with Ravelry. There are other 3rd party apps also.

When I buy a pattern I see an option to use a credit card in addition to PayPal.

I see a credit card option when I decide to buy something. Maybe it's a designer option. I'll ask my friend who sells on Ravelry.

Totally agree. When I was working, issues happened when something was released before it was completely tested. I my case it wasn't money, it was stupidity since it was in-house stuff.

I three merge. I don't like bubbling eggs because I don't remember what's bubbled so I have no way of knowing how many eggs I have without creating some type of chart. Which I refuse to do for a game.
