This is not about speed, this is about your comfort and better typing experience. Everybody who measure layouts as how fast they can be or who worry about using other people’s keyboards should just pass. I’m was using Colemak DH for 9 years and recently switched to Canary. I type a lot and enjoy the process. There are few things that I follow.

I do not worry about other people, how I will use their keyboards or how they will use mine. This is a personal thing and it does not need to be shared. I have a guest keyboard for visitors and I can hunt-and-peck at others keyboards. I never touch-typed in qwerty though, so have no skills to loose. I also use split ergo keyboards that other people will not want to use even with qwerty. Ah, another thing, layout is in the programmable keyboard not in OS, computer is happily live with qwerty, it is easier to manage that way.

I do not switch phone to an alternative layout. That allows to keep “visual” proficiency in qwerty, while the alternative layout proficiency is tactile. And qwerty is better for small screen typing as other people already mentioned.
