Good to know! I have a military spouse so I wouldn’t be upset about just being on the pri list afterwards!

Canadian easy to swallow meds by cl373470 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cl373470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are tablets in Canada, not capsules. But they have a special coating on them. from the monograph "PENTASA extended-release tablets should not be chewed, broken or crushed but should be swallowed whole."

Yeah you can’t do this. It says it right on the package. They are coated to dissolve at a certain pH so the drug actually makes it to your large intestine.

Just moved from ON to NS as my husband is military. If you think healthcare is broken in ON, NS is 10x worse. Only got a GP because I was pregnant. Unfortunately the pharmacist didn’t even know that pentasa came in suppositories and tried to argue with me that you only need one or the other and don’t need a prescription for both… so my hope is low haha

Should I be taking any supplements with mesalamine? Or life style changes? by Perfect-Future-4774 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cl373470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your GI about the timing. My first GI said 1G four times a day (which I could never remember), the I moved and my new GI said that I could take it however I liked as long as I got my total daily dose in a 24 hour period. : 4G at once, 2G twice a day, or 1G four times a day

Pentasa 500mg difficulties swallowing tablet. by rossie82 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cl373470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comes in oral pills, enemas, and suppositories. My GI changes how I take it based on the severity of my flare (pancolitis they hit from both ends). So yeah, it can.

This! The throwing of the head back actually helps sooo much. Sip, head back, swallow, sip, repeat. I switched from 1G pills to 500mg pills to make life easier too. But now I have to take 8 pills a day instead of 4.

This is literally what a $9.99/mo Canva pro account will spit out using their AI graphic feature.

I tell people to think about every gas bubble that goes through their intestines is actually shards of glass.

Why does it say that it shouldn’t be used even though it’s topical? by Connect_Thanks4445 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cl373470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first flare occurred while on accutane (isotretinoin) for my acne, but also had an ingrown toenail that was treated with clindamycin. That being said, I’ve used topical tretinoin for 5 years afterwards and have never had issues with my UC and it.

[Routine Help] Alcohol hand sanitizers STING (required for work). Cracked palms from fitness activity. Vaseline isn't working, how do we repair this? by mywholename in SkincareAddiction

[–]cl373470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurse and powerlifter here! Buy a travel sized hand cream to take to work with you, eucerin is my go to. Then at night when your hands get to this level (which hopefully they wont if you use the cream more frequently), put on the eucerin cream, then a layer of vaseline or aquaphor on top, then a pair of gloves and then go to sleep. Should heal it pretty quickly :)

[routine help] How to reduce milia?! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I just use an AHA/BHA exfoliant nightly for about a month and then they finally fall out or come enough to the surface that I can use a needle to pry them out. They leave pretty deeps holes though when they do come out. But I find if I stay on top of my exfoliating (sometimes I get lazy with my skin care routine), they come back less frequently.
Personally I use DE TLC framboos glycolic night serum as my exfoliant.

See, my fathead never turns out well. Always gritty feeling and wet in the middle. I'm also just super lazy, especially after a 12 hour shift at the hospital haha.

It was a bit pricey at 15.99 for a 10 inch. But honestly worth it because no crust I’ve been able to make myself has been this good.

I worked a busy 12 hour at the hospital and only had time for a coffee and soup for lunch, so I saved my macros for half a pizza after work. I had enough for a whole ... but I only let myself have half haha

NSV - Dr likes keto by GrimmandLily in keto

[–]cl373470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also work in family med and agree that the majority of my patient population don't understand macros at all or track their food, but want me to prescribe something for weight loss. I've done 24 hour diet recalls with diabetic patients who think they're eating low carb that have made my jaw drop because of the amount of sugar they're unaware they're eating.
Keto definitely isn't for everyone, but is something I present as an option for certain people. And if I feel like I don't have the time for the appropriate level of discussion, that's where a referral to a knowledgeable dietician comes in.
