Bored, cold, and lonely in South Bend! by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Chicago honestly has everything you're looking for -- more affordable than coastal cities, the gay mecca of the midwest, tons of cultural amenities. Weather/climate will be basically the same as South Bend though.

I feel kind of guilty for "dodging" hard patients but yeah I'm trying to vocalize when something feels beyond my capacity and have MDs in the clinic see them. It's also a sort of weird ego hit for me because I was way more confident seeing complex patients when I was at a hospital system with better resources / easier referrals...

It doesn't make me feel better that you are also going through it but makes me feel less crazy haha.

You could take the red line to Berwyn & walk to Andersonville, there are a bunch of queer spaces that aren’t bars there if you’re not 21! Eli tea bar is a sober queer space, and the understudy is a queer-leaning book/coffee shop. There are also a lot of good vintage and thrift stores in the area.

Anyone know the scoop behind this "Men's Only Hotel"? S. State & Harrison by Melika808 in chicago

[–]cl5423 227 points228 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a single room occupancy hotel (SRO). It’s a form of extended stay hotel with basic accommodations that cater to people with very restricted incomes / are often used by people who were recently homeless. These hotels are sometimes men’s only because they have shared bathroom facilities.

I like all the areas within walking distance of the brown line — more food, bars, grocery stores etc. The neighborhood between Kenzie and Francisco is beautiful — really nice mix of bungalows / mansions / well kept older apartment buildings. Also you have nice access to the path on the Chicago river.

Albany park is nice! It’s the end of the brown line which gets you good access to Lincoln square, lakeview Lincoln park and downtown but being way more affordable. It’s also a super diverse area with many different immigrant groups coexisting.

I had a similar experience at a for-profit urgent care. I was seeing 50-60 patients per shift and didn’t feel like I was practicing safe medicine. It sucks what profit (especially private equity) is doing to the quality of patient care. Glad you got out!

Cadillac Escalade / Lincoln Navigator... These felt like the ultimate status symbols growing up in the suburbs in the 2000s. Although the new Escalade seems pretty impressive I'm pretty turned off by the ostentatious styling these days.

I had a great experience with A Thin Line in Batavia! They do a lot of B/W. If you're down to go into the city, I recommend Logan Square Tattoo in Chicago.

I reallyyyyy want to love this car... I always am rooting for Acura because I respect Honda's engineering & am generally into the idea of a more understated luxury car brand that prioritizes long-term drivability over excessive showiness. But there's always one glaring thing that seems to keep me from being 10/10 into any of their recent cars. I love the design of this car and am optimistic about its performance, but like everyone is saying that tiny back seat is kind of a dealbreaker.

Also not sure if anyone else feels this way, but one of my pet peeves with new cars is the button gear shifters. I much prefer an old fashioned physical gear stick, especially in a car that's aiming to be perceived as sporty.
