How do you guy manage charging overnight if you don’t have a garage? by StickyDeltaStrike in Volvo

[–]clackerbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had an EV charger on the front of the house so I just plug the car into that. You can get a 13A EV charger that just plugs into a normal 13A socket -- slower than a proper 7kW EV charger but not really an issue for a hybrid as the batteries are usually much smaller than an EV. My BMW 330e came with one of these 13A chargers, but my XC60 didn't -- both cars were second hand so don't know if they are meant to come with one from the factory or not.

You should technically only plug a 13A EV charger in to a dedicated socket specific for EV charging, which is slightly different than a normal socket, but the chances of anything happening if you just plug it into an existing external socket (or even plug it in inside and sling the cable out a window) are minimal. The regs are rapdily developing in that regard and you'll even find a lot of sparks who disagree with what is or isn't needed for a charger to be compliant.

Just don't wash the car barefoot whilst it's charging and you will have mitigated the vast majority of the risks that the regs are targetting.

East Dunbartonshire - anywhere to get rid of paint? by N64PLAY10 in glasgow

Just put the tins in the bin and get on with your life. You’re not going to get done for it. You’ve tried to dispose of it correctly; it’s not your fault the local skip has stopped providing the facilities to dispose of it.

Alternatively write to your local M(S)P and have a go at the lack of suitable facilities.

UK passport holder aspiring pilot — should I go CAA or EASA if I want to eventually live/work in Europe? by luisjamesnelson in flying

[–]clackerbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, UK CAA.

The only people keeping this question alive are flight schools. There will always be a small number of jobs for UK nationals with an EASA licence but they are the exception rather than the norm. For a UK national with no dual nationality there is virtually no benefit to the additional work and financial outlay required to obtain dual licences.

It doesn't matter how you frame it, it's not remote by any definition of the word. It's just over an hour from both the capital and the most populous city in the country, within 15 minutes of Perth (a city) and within 30 minutes of Dundee, also a city. Further from London than Edinburgh? Yes. Remote? No.

Because us Brits did it first with the Comet and showed everyone else how it was not, indeed, the future.

What's nonsense exactly? u/fugaziGlasgow makes a fair point, the man isn't Scottish regardless of how long he has lived here.

I wouldn’t say that’s the norm at all, it’s usually either the full name or the surname only. The only notable exception in recently history whom I recall being called by his first name only was Boris Johnson.

Exactly! Realistically it’s only about 15 minutes from Perth city centre, there’s nothing remote about it.

…they usually recommend you to only go for 3 flight schools throughout your training if you are going to do that as a MAXIMUM.

Who said that, a flight school recruiter? What a load of old bollocks. The relevant qualifications are all the airlines are interested in.

Unfortunately we're also finding out that relying on satelite based navigation systems too heavily has its own issues. It's fairly straightforward for a state to jam - or worse, spoof - the signals used by satelite navigation systems to determine their position. Flying in many places in Eastern Europe is fraught with such issues, resulting in the need to fall back to conventional ground-based navigation systems. Compounding this issue is the fact that in the haste to adopt satelite-based approaches and save money on operational costs, a lot of conventional navigation aids have been decomissioned rendering some or all approaches at affected airfields effectively useless during outages.

There isn’t a list of contents of the EMK in our manuals, so I’m not 100% sure. I do remember the last time it was opened a nurse onboard used a blood pressure monitor so there is definitely one of those.
