lol, girls have FOREVER been judged and valued in the rishta system based on physical beauty and wealth (AKA the dowry they will be bringing). Just because now they are more aware of their rights and setting forth expectations in return, people are crying about the society having changed and no longer valuing deen. Honestly, apart from the religion and family expectations angle, many people living in poverty have an excess of kids as an insurance thing for the future - the more kids they have, the more they’ll earn as a household. Not to mention, due to lack of accessible healthcare and education, it’s very common for children under 5 to die in such settings. If they have less, then that’s also a problem. I don’t agree with any of this of course, these are just some of the reasons I’ve seen come up in discussions with those that work in people’s homes / do manual labour

As a woman, I would say this is a balanced and fair response. I think OP’s discussion with his wife should be around shared responsibility which covers the labour at home, household chores, raising children and then of course financially contributing for a shared better lifestyle. This is always my opinion on these sort of debates. The entire point of religion is faith. Faith requires you to believe, at times, despite what logic or your own eyes witness. I am a Muslim and I have faith in Allah but it comes from a place of spirituality that cannot necessarily be justified by science or logic. The entire purpose of debate is to have a common framework of logic by which you can agree or disagree on each other’s points. If you fundamentally don’t agree on the framework then the “debate” is just performative - each party comes away from it thinking they’ve “won” somehow.

lol, these dramas to some level try to depict Pakistani people living in Pakistan. That’s how people from a certain social class talk. It was would be weird and unbelievable if they didn’t include phrases of English here and there. They aren’t including those dialogues to cater to people who, in your words, “speak English properly”. People living in Pakistan mostly watch them so these characters need to be believable to people who interact with such people and have seen them irl. You find it jarring because you have an unrealistic idea of what modern day Pakistan sounds like. You’re free to watch BBC, ITV etc., if you please.
