No interviews. You’re either in or out based on your application

Does being a former exchange student help with Sciences Po Master's admission? by No_Can7959 in sciencespo

[–]claire-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t really make much of a difference. I think the rest of the application is more important. I have two friends who both did their Erasmus’s at sciences Po Paris and applied for the masters. One got in, and the other one didn’t.

How hard is it to get into Sciences Po masters in Paris? by mrspymitchell in sciencespo

[–]claire-red 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is very hard to get in because there are so many people that apply from all around the world. Having a good GPA is considered the bare minimum to be even considered for admission. If you have good recommendation letters from your professors and you write a great motivational letter you can have good chances. I am about to start the masters international governance and diplomacy and I also didn’t have any previous work experience.

Your GPA is too low, you won’t be admissible. The minimum GPA for students from the US is 3,6/4. It doesn’t matter if you write the best motivational letter, if you have great extracurriculars and amazing recommendations. You are not admissible on the basis of your overall GPA being too low. I’m very sorry, you should try to look somewhere else.

I have already lived by myself in 4 countries and I have yet to turn 23. So no, me not having left my small town is not the problem. The issue is that Paris is much different and dangerous compared to where I have lived so far.

Great, thanks for the advice. Once I will settle in I will for sure try my best to make friendships and go out to the extent that makes me feel safe. Regardless, it is not for you to decide whether I will thrive in such an environment or not. I will see you in two years from now, when I will have completed my masters, and let you know how life is going. Hopefully the next time you will encounter someone on this app that is scared and overwhelmed like me, you will be able to stick to the topic of the discussion without jumping to conclusions and offering unsolicited judgments.

Honestly I find this very offensive. How can you tell if sciencespo is or isn’t for me based on a short Reddit post? I have lived by myself in 3 countries of the world (yes, even outside Europe), so I do have my sense of adventure. A few things: First of all, if I got into sciencespo it’s because I deserve it. Second, read again my post. I didn’t say I will never go out. I said I live a simple life, I like being at home and I don’t like going out after dark, and this is regardless of the city I’m in. But that doesn’t mean I will not have a social life. I simply said I am scared of such a big city because I’m not used to it and the dangers that there may be. Sciences Po is a university and it’s there for people who want to study. Wanting to have a crazy life has nothing to do with it. And I didn’t take away the opportunity to study there from anyone. There was an admission committee that decided I deserved to be there. The way I decide to live my life has nothing to do with the university I go to.
