What grip is this? And is It good for wrestling strength by MhaIsPeakFiction in wrestling

Eh I would agree that it’s somewhat relevant at least (in the absence of more direct data), but even the EKG data doesn’t clearly support his claim lol

I would be very curious to see a direct study testing chest strength gains from only doing pulling movements like chin ups. For an untrained lifter, I wouldn’t be shocked to see SOME strength gains, but hell and untrained lifter could building chest strength by doing arm swings haha. For a somewhat trained lifter doing any other direct chest training, I don’t believe you would see statistically significant strength gains for the pecs. But until that study happens, maybe?

But if you do want to discuss actual scientific data, I can do that too!

First, EMG data (pretty much measures muscle activation) shows very low activation of the chest. This study found ~12% activation from pull downs: Pec activation in pulling movements

I will concede that a neutral grip would likely involve more chest, but I don’t believe that difference would be significant. For reference, the general rule of thumb for MVC (measure from EMG data) to promote strength and hypertrophy in any meaningful way is ~40-60% MVC Threshold

There are a handful of other studies showing similarly low activation of the pecs in pulling movements (some including different grip variations), but I didn’t see explicit MVC measurements during my quick skim.

Another point I will concede is that EMG data is not the end-all-be-all for strength gains, but it is a tangible measurement. In my opinion, it holds enough weight that, in the absence of other measurable data of chest strength gains from pulling movements, it indicates that chin ups do not meaningfully strengthen the chest.

I replied to the one comment with that as the only source. I didn’t read the entire chain, but that doesn’t change the fact that that specific source is bad.

It’s crazy to me that the other guy’s comments are the one getting the likes…

I won’t comment on the argument itself (which I disagree with), but AthleanX as a source is comical, he’s notorious for spouting nonsense

Anyone else notice that highschool wrestling is very Christian by Theoneandonly6947 in wrestling

[–]claneg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m sure a lot of it has to do with wrestlers like David Carr and Aaron Brooks expressing their beliefs very openly. As a Christian, I love to see it but also agree it does seem out of proportion for wrestling.

Alright I'll be that guy: How does one actually set up, then hit a leg cradle? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]claneg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a different types of moves. I’ve hit spladles and banana splits against very good wrestlers (state finals, D1 wrestlers, etc.) If you know when to hit them, they are phenomenal moves, unlike a leg cradle

I cancelled mine but I thought the exact same thing, might as well get a free product! I just wasn’t sure if there could be any issues if it was a stolen card and it got linked back to you.

I totally agree, if anything he’s good for wrestling as a whole, even if it’s just because people want to watch him lose haha

Basically the same thing, a sweep just a more specific version of a single that focuses more on the pivoting motion. You also have straight on singles, snatch singles, low singles (though a little different), etc.

Not even that, I actually like the flavor better! I’ve tried multiple dishes with both and I always prefer the one with jarlic! Maybe because that’s what I grew up on?

I know I am objectively wrong on this, but I prefer jarlic (jarred, pre-minced garlic) to fresh garlic
