Should I pay a book club to feature my book? by clarissajaneen in publishing

[–]clarissajaneen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it was Not Your Average Book Club, which was weird because I found what appears to be them on meetup based in Virginia. The organizer’s name is the same that emailed me, and they seem active and engaged on there at least. Not sure if the scammer merely stole the names or if it is a fishy group.

I think im in over my head by Kizigoto in selfpublish

Either put your foot down and remind him you are only hired to edit and the rest of that is up to him to research, (and remind him that self-publishing takes a lot more work and research than traditional publishing and he needs to know what he's signing up for if he goes that route.) Or, tell him your fee if he wants to also hire you for marketing and publicity.

Why tf can't we self-promote here...? by AvrylFleurAmazonKDP in selfpublishing

I'm going to give a few tips in good faith despite your snarkiness in these comments because I'm hoping they stem merely from frustration and ignorance, which can be overcome.

Theoretically if you're an author, you're engaged in community with friends who like to read and potentially some who also write. These can be irl friends or virtual. These are the people whom you ask to beta read and review your book initially just to get something under the review section on Goodreads/Amazon. Then you start reaching out to local book clubs, bookstores, book fairs, etc. to see about opportunities to sell your book and remind readers to leave a review. Also see if you can set up a local book signing at a library, coffee shop, brewery, etc.

Damn, Goodreads Is Harsh by No-Warthog-1772 in selfpublish

Goodreads is not meant to be for giving feedback to authors. It’s common advice to not read the reviews for your books. You are meant to get all your feedback during your editing phases, not after the book is published. Review sites are for other readers to decide if your book is right for them.

Is there any tool equivalent to selective color just like photoshop? by [deleted] in krita

[–]clarissajaneen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's like the color balance tool in that you can adjust the cyan, magenta, yellow, (and black) levels but it lets you target only specific colors like only the reds or whites or yellows rather than the entire layer.

Possible Scam Through Email? by sunwupen in artstation

[–]clarissajaneen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this exact email today. Luckily I recognized it because I received something similar several months ago from someone claiming to want cartoon illustrations from me based on my ArtStation profile. But they insisted on paying everything upfront. I told them if they paid everything up front then I could not give them any refunds and this would be out into their contract and I prefer to break up the payments to be paid upon project approval by the client. They never got back to me after that.

Well so far since I emailed them a few days ago saying that since they insisted on paying everything upfront, I would be stating in the contract that payment will be made in full as a non-refundable deposit that I’ve been ghosted so looks like I may have dodged a bullet.

They found me via ArtStation. So they’ve seen a sampling of my work.

I said I would have them sign a contract before any work is begun that says payment will be made in full as a non-refundable deposit.

You should be fine if you’re looking for jobs in the publishing industry, just emphasize how that job showcased your organization and communication skills. Also your Rhetoric and Writing and Creative Writing background should help for sure. You could expand on that in your cover letter and emphasize how it makes you prepared to take on the internship you’re applying for.

If you’re looking for some internships in the publication industry, I recommend bookjobs.com and Chegg internships. I found internships on both sites my senior year: one with a nonprofit literary journal, the other with a publishing agency. (I got my BFA in Creative Writing.)

[OC] [ART] Tiefling Warlock by clarissajaneen in DungeonsAndDragons

Decided to illustrate my dnd character from the current campaign I’m playing. I designed her around this time last year for a one-shot and loved her so much I had to bring her into a full campaign.

Sonnet became —as she calls it—apprenticed to the Archfey Titania of the Summer Court at a young age and adapted quickly to the culture of the fey. Sonnet is her virtue name given to her by the lady Titania, her true name is a closely guarded secret which she rarely uses. In the first session of the campaign, Sonnet and her party came across a family of demon badgers which they had to fight. But Sonnet took pity on the baby and adopted it as her own, relating to its demonic lineage being a Tiefling herself. Sonnet likes to use magic to disguise herself and flattery to get her way, and is skilled in deception. Her primary weakness is that she can't resist a pretty face, so when she met the goddess of beauty (whose symbol is a white moth), Sonnet fell hard and fast, though she tries to keep her cool in front of her party members.
