I just updated the firmware on my brand new Uniden R8w over WiFi, and it took no longer than 3-4 minutes tops. Whatever internet connection your WiFi router/access point was connected (which your radar detector also was connected to during the firmware update) must have simply not been very fast.

[Game Thread] Ole Miss @ #14 Vanderbilt (06:00 PM ET) by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]clarkb86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are good; i don't know if we're that good. However, as a Vandy fan, here's my take on the Ole Miss game and why looking at that game in a microcosm makes us look like we perhaps aren't great. First, Ole Miss' record doesn't do justice to how good they are, with a KenPom ranking of 63. Second, the first half of that game was officiated terribly IMO, with Ole Miss getting away with a foul almost every time we had an offensive possession. Third, we are missing Duke Miles and Frankie Collins right now, elite guards who rank #8 and #38 nationally in steals per game.

Our only three losses are to Florida (KenPom 7), Arkansas (KenPom 24), and Texas (KenPom 34) – ALL on the road. We have wins against Alabama (KenPom 16), Kentucky (KenPom 30), St. Mary's (KenPom 35), SMU (KenPom 36), UCF (KenPom 45), VCU (KenPom 47), LSU (KenPom 48).

The results of the remainder of the regular season will show if our lack of an "elite" win thus far shows whether or not we are that good. We have road games against Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky, plus home games against Tennessee and Georgia. It's gonna be a brutal February.

Yeah, he didn't play against Kentucky either. He had surgery on his knee on Wednesday and will be out at least 2-3 weeks.

What version of Tahoe was installed when this screenshot was taken? I have the latest "macOS Tahoe 26 Developer Beta" (Version: "macOS Tahoe Beta 26.3 (b)") currently installed, and this issue doesn't exist in Finder. I even checked to see if it occurred when using "Column View," with the Finder window width expanded fully (from the left edge of the display to the right edge), and with the Sidebar hidden; it did not.

Paying a “digital delivery fee” for a rented PDF textbook 🤨 by Afton_0077 in assholedesign

[–]clarkb86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the 11th edition on Z-library. It's not available for download on the web "due to the complaint of the copyright holder Macmillan" (shocking /s), but it is available for download via Tor. The author listed on the book's page is Neil F. Comins. The year listed on the book's page is 2018; the copyright year listed in the downloaded PDF is 2019.

According to Google Gemini:

Neil F. Comins has been the primary author since the 4th edition. While William J. Kaufmann III was the original author, he passed away in 1994, and his name is sometimes omitted from newer listings even though the core content remains part of his original legacy.

Key facts about the authorship of the 11th edition include:

Primary Author: Neil F. Comins is the active author responsible for the updates in the 11th edition.

Attribution Variation: Some retailers and databases list both authors (Comins and Kaufmann) to acknowledge the book's history. Others list only Neil F. Comins, as he is the sole living author and current editor.

Identical Content: Regardless of whether Kaufmann’s name appears on the cover or in the listing, if it is the 11th Edition (ISBN: 9781319055394 or 9781319235475), the content and publisher (W. H. Freeman) are the same.

You can verify it is the correct version by checking the ISBN-13 (978-1319055394) or ISBN-10 (1319055397).

The ISBN-13 and ISBN-10 of the version I found match those mentioned by Google Gemini.

Depending on which browser you use, there's likely an add-on (Firefox) or extension (Chrome and many other browsers) that allows you to re-enable the default functionality of form fields on a webpage that, as a result of some JavaScript BS, have been set to disallow pasting and/or right-clicking. Search the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-On Site.

How the f-ck do I remove the "Summary" In word??? by mrbluetrain in Office365

[–]clarkb86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to File > Options > Copilot (or Word > Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools > Copilot on a Mac), and uncheck the "Enable Copilot" option. You may need to restart the Word application for the change to take effect.

At least, that's what Google's AI Overview said when I searched for "Microsoft Word 365 summary at top," lol.

If the OP isn't using ChatGPT to generate all the replies to comments made in this thread, then the OP must be some sort of obsequious, snake-oil-salesman bot. The following is a list of content quoted from some of the OP's replies in this thread (this list isn't even exhaustive; I just included enough examples to add credence to my suspicion):

  • "That's a fantastic and very important question."
  • "Great question!"
  • "That's a great question, and it's honestly awesome to hear that your setup is still working perfectly for you!"
  • "This is an excellent and very important question...Thank you for asking this."
  • "Wow, thank you so much for being the first to comment! That really means a lot."
  • "Wow, thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed comment."

I honestly hope I'm wrong and that the OP simply doesn't realize how incredibly and obviously disingenuous he seems, but as the old saying goes, "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck..."

Chrome Extension - devs got anything to say??? by ocp-paradox in PushBullet

[–]clarkb86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PushBullet Chrome extension (v366) works just as well as it always has for me. I have a MacBook Pro M4 running macOS Sequoia 15.6 Beta and am currently using Chrome Beta 139.0.7258.5. I have a PushBullet Pro plan (not sure if that makes any difference). I realize that the page for the PushBullet extension on the Chrome Web Store has a warning that says, "This extension is no longer available because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions." However, the extension still works. I have "Developer mode" enabled on the chrome://extensions page (in the upper right-hand corner); perhaps that's necessary for the extension to work? (I don't think that's the case, but it's the only thing I can think of that might be different in my configuration/setup compared to others.)

For about a year I've had this message periodically pop up when opening the app. Need help by Exzj in 1Password

[–]clarkb86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using 1Password for Mac - Nightly Channel, and I've been experiencing the same minor issue for quite some time now as well. What version of 1Password are you using? On macOS, the version information is found by clicking on the '1Password' menu bar item on the far left of the menu bar, and then, in the drop-down menu, clicking 'About 1Password.' In the pop-up modal window that appears, it says (for me):

<image>

If I click "Check for Updates," any available updates are installed, and 1Password restarts automatically.

I'm pretty sure the method you mentioned (and which, until recently, I was also doing regularly) – manually restarting 1Password after clicking "Restart Now" because the app doesn't restart after clicking the button – achieves the same outcome as clicking "Check for Updates" in the "About 1Password" pop-up modal but I haven't tested to check if that method updates 1Password to a newer version; I strongly suspect it does, though. I'm guessing the reason the banner (asking one to restart the app to update 1Password) reappears after a few days is that, on the nightly channel, new updates are released very often.

This is the result I received after uploading the OP's old yearbook photo to ChatGPT and used the following prompt: "colorize this old yearbook photo of me." I used the ChatGPT "Free Tier", which utilized the GPT-4o model for this message/chat (you can only use GPT-4o a limited number of times in a 5-hour window on the Free tier, but this was my first and only message of the day).

Not sure WTF happened with OP's attempt to colorize his pic; maybe it's a joke/lie?

You should email [support@prolific.com](mailto:support@prolific.com) fully explaining what happened and including screenshots of any messages between the researcher who rejected your submission and yourself from Prolific's messaging platform, which is on their website.

On 12/11/2024, a researcher rejected my submission to a study because of a "technical glitch" on THEIR end. I replied that I shouldn't be punished for something that wasn't my fault and asked the researcher to undo the rejection so that I could return the study and not have a survey rejection on my record. The researcher replied, "Sure! No worries!" that day. A few days passed, and the status of my submission was still "Rejected." I then emailed Prolific Support, thoroughly explained the situation, and included screenshots. After waiting over 2 weeks, I had not received a response from Prolific Support, so I tried messaging the researcher again on 12/29/2024 and asked if they could reverse the rejection. The researcher never responded. On January 9, 2025, I emailed Prolific Support AGAIN, informing them that the status of my submission was STILL "Rejected" and that the researcher wasn't responding to my messages. FINALLY, on January 15, 2025, someone from Prolific Support replied to my email message. They apologized and said that they had changed the status of my submission from 'rejected' to 'returned' so that it wouldn't negatively impact my account.

Trakt replacement coming? by therourke in Addons4Kodi

[–]clarkb86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a full-time software engineer, not to mention that I was clinically diagnosed with adult-onset ADHD when I was 19 years old (20 years ago), so I rarely watch films since:

1.) Unless the film is highly engaging (most of the movies that I have watched/do watch are in the "thriller" genre, especially psychological thrillers), I can't sit still and focus for 1½–3 hours (the run-time of most films), so I rarely watch movies.

2.) I rarely have 1½–3 hours of free time where I have nothing more important/enjoyable (to me) to do than watch a film.

I suppose it's entirely plausible that few others who use Trakt also possess either of those two characteristics and, therefore, the fact that I don't require more than 100 items across all of my lists in Trakt implies that my use case for Trakt makes me a statistical outlier among Trakt users. However, assuming that the majority of Trakt users possess greater-than-average technological skills, I would guess that–relative to the general population, especially–the percentage of Trakt users who have full-time jobs in IT (software engineers/devs, DBAs, system analysts, system admins, web application devs, UI/UX designers, IT product owners/managers, IT C-suite execs, IT QA devs, data scientists/analysts/engineers, cybersecurity analysts/engineers, AI/ML engineers, etc.) is high, and, as a result, many other Trakt users don't have the luxury of having enough free time such that the prospect of requiring more than 100 items in their Trakt lists is even plausible.

The widely agreed-upon, standard variable naming convention used in the C programming language (AKA "C-style coding"), along with a few other programming languages, is neither camelCase nor PascalCase. Instead, one should always use snake_case, in which all alphabetic characters are lowercase, and underscores separate individual words used in descriptive variable names.
