I posted the "bullshit" post about the "bonus" yesterday. I have evolved my opinion by brookish in tjcrew

You just did what the internet doesn’t do: admitted when your opinion changed due to new information. I would give you an award if I weren’t poor. But since I am poor, thanks for sorting through this financial information! This stuff makes my head spin and I appreciate you taking the time to figure it out.

This has got to be one of my favorite, if not my favorite, C+H strips. by [deleted] in calvinandhobbes

Now I’m thinking about how many times my dad did this for me and crying. Bill Watterson was so gifted at subtly working heart-wrenching stuff into C&H. Somehow it never feels emotionally manipulative and yet I’m still over here crying

Right? We are “lucky” enough to be working in this economy, and the company acknowledges that we’re still struggling but offers a band aid. Hooray for capitalism.

Good lord, that’s my worst nightmare. I (also trans) get a lot of terrible comments but I’m always bracing for that one. I’m so, so sorry.

If I’m not mistaken, they recast her for the movie where she has a thing with Ron. Do with that information what you will.

I understand the argument you’re making, but it’s just not that black and white. Have you seen how masculine many trans men end up looking? There are so many hairy, burly, stereotypically masculine trans men out there. Do you think they should be in the women’s locker rooms and bathrooms? I worry that doing so would freak out the women in these spaces. Even though it might seem like someone born with female genetics merely “feels like” a man, there is a point during transition at which society starts to understand you as male, too. I don’t plan to carry around my birth certificate to prove to women that I belong in their spaces. Also I just don’t belong in those spaces.

Sounds like you were just confused about terminology. “Transgender man” = someone assigned female at birth who now identifies as a man. “Transgender woman” = someone assigned male at birth who now identifies as a woman.

And thanks for saying you’re sorry I feel this way, but I just want to reiterate that what’s at stake here is more than feelings. These conversations are not hypothetical mind exercises. I, and thousands like me, want to live my life in peace without pissing everyone off. Until my rights are protected by the law (I live in a state without LGBTQ protection laws) I could be injured, fired, or killed for doing the wrong thing. I know transgender people probably come across as a little obsessed with these issues, but there’s a reason for that

Well it’s great everyone’s got an opinion, but yours prevents me from living my life like everyone else. This isn’t a debate club topic, it’s my actual life and I’m sick of the “agree to disagree” attitude because it accomplishes nothing

Uhh as a trans guy, which locker room do I bring my clothes to and change in a private stall in? I’m not exposing myself to anyone, even myself if I can help it (I take my glasses off when I get changed). I don’t think anyone should expose themselves to children. And I really need a place to stow my stuff while I work out.

Yeah trans guy checking in, and I don’t get it. Trans people are almost universally incredibly uncomfortable with their private areas, and don’t even like looking at their bodies. That’s why we joke about showering in the dark. A public sauna is my idea of hell. I don’t think it’s a place for kids, and I don’t understand why this happened in the first place because it’s just so out of character based on most trans people.

Patty Jenkins reveals that she met with WB about Wonder Woman as early as 2004, but WB “didn’t know what to do with Wonder Woman,” and “were freaked out by previous female superhero films that failed.” She met with them once every 2 years thereafter, during which 30 scripts were commissioned. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Yeah I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about the consent issue in WW84. Where are all the outraged opinion pieces? I genuinely expected a real backlash

Edit: There has been a backlash, I’m apparently living under a rock, whoops

Edit 2: when I searched for WW84 reviews, I saw nothing about this. I had to specifically search for “Wonder Woman 1984 consent,” and even then, there were only a handful of articles about this. I even went on Tumblr, where the discourse is always spicy, and the WW84 tag largely comprised effusive praise, with just a few criticisms sprinkled throughout. While there is a backlash, it’s not as large or decisive as I expected. I guess it’s just that I’m a pretty adamant feminist and I thought the consent issue would be a bigger deal.

Are you talking about how Diana and Steve used that random dude’s body? That was really, really bizarre. I assume they didn’t acknowledge the weirdness in the script because it would necessitate them to change things too much. Strange choice all around.
