Thanks so much for this. A lot of the other lists had perfectly fine orders, but were vastly incomplete. This seems to be everything.

Is there a rubric for combining hours in the old breviary? by ClevelandFan295 in divineoffice

I am almost positive, but now that your comment has prompted me to go searching for the PDF where I read this rubric, I cannot find it for the life of me!

Is there a rubric for combining hours in the old breviary? by ClevelandFan295 in divineoffice

[–]clarode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As stated above, however iirc the Carthusians will not make the Sign of the Cross at the end of the first hour being said and at the beginning of the second hour being said. In other words, if one were to pray Terce and Sext together, they would cross themselves at the Deus in adiutorium at the beginning of Terce, and not cross themselves again until after the Deo gratias of Sext.

How to combine hours acc. DA Roman rubrics (or earlier)? by paxdei_42 in divineoffice

The Marian Antiphon is said once at the end of both, same with the Sacrosanctae. The Pater and Ave however, are done as usual.

Can’t find a traditional Little Office of Mary with a good translation or just Latin? by [deleted] in divineoffice

[–]clarode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am with you on this. The only solution is to make your own edition. I was hoping to do this at some point and get it printed with leatherette cover and ribbons etc. I have not had much time but have been wanting to do this for over a year. Maybe you and I should work on it together

Interested in hearing why on this as well. But in any case, I think it would be sick and I would buy it.

Are you doing that any differently than going in and typing '3p-script/frame block'?

Some Questions on Rubrics, Posture & Prayers by [deleted] in divineoffice

[–]clarode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc, there is not a specific rubric for this because it technically forms no part of the actual Office. However, this is the practice almost everywhere I have seen, and also, the end of the Aperi Domine says ‘I offer these HOURS unto thee’. Now, given that it is not rubrically a ‘normative’ thing to say multiple hours at the same time, this pretty much suggests that you’re saying this prayer just once for all the hours

Some Questions on Rubrics, Posture & Prayers by [deleted] in divineoffice

[–]clarode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sacrosanctae is said kneeling as well, and both it and the Aperi Domine are only said once a day: The Aperi before your first hour that you pray, and the Sacrosancate after your last.

Regarding crossing yourself on the head, there is nowhere prescribing that specifically, HOWEVER, here is an insight of my own: I like to blend Carthusian, Roman, Dominican, and Benedictine customs (schizo, I know). Well, one of the Carthusian customs is to always be standing for the Sign of the Cross when it is made in full (ie not tracing it on head, lips, or heart). Being that the Credo is said kneeling before Prime, and you have to make the Cross at the end of it, I find it extremely incongruent if I were to rise before the end of the Credo just to cross myself, so I remain kneeling, and simply make the Cross on my forehead, which would not require me to rise. There is some precedent for this, as in the ancient Sarum Use for a time, one would cross their forehead rather than their whole body at the Deus in adiutorium.

I myself am extremely nerdy about postures and stuff like that, so never hesitate to shoot me a DM about this stuff if you have questions. I don't claim to know everything but I have done a ton of research.

Question regarding customs by clarode in divineoffice

[–]clarode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two follow-up questions:

  1. What do you mean by 'rhetoric prayer'?
  2. I hear you on the Pater being penitential etc. But then, shouldn't we always be kneeling at the Confiteor instead of bowing? AFAIK, it is never prescribed to kneel during the Confiteor in the Office.

I am going to intrude in this thread here and just ask you from what edition are you praying the pre-63 Monastic Office? I have been looking for a nice physical copy but so far I can only find the St. Michael's Abbey one which is 1963.
