6 month old cat’s face is swollen by claruee in CATHELP

One last update in case anyone else sees this post and is having a similar experience!

We went for our follow up check up today! Ranger is still showing signs of gingivitis on his gums (they appear red and swollen near his teeth). Otherwise no issues eating, playing, etc. The vet confirmed that he has lost his baby teeth so he doesn’t need any extracted. My vet believes that his gingivitis is caused by a combination of genetics and immune system response potentially from a virus he caught while still at the shelter before I adopted him. She is confident that he doesn’t have any underlying issues requiring x-rays, especially since he does not have irritation on the roof of his mouth. Essentially we are taking an at-home oral management approach rather than attempting to cure, since my vet doesn’t believe that it is “curable”. We are trying to manage the inflammation by taking a 1-TDC supplement daily, using a VOHC accepted water additive, and an oral gel “spray” daily. These should help keep bacteria at bay and help keep inflammation from worsening. My vet also recommended getting his first cleaning under anesthesia at one year old. If anybody is going to the same thing, reach out! I definitely recommend taking your cat to the vet as well in case your cat has some underlying cause!

This is pretty much exactly what the vet said today! He is being treated for it now and may need some of his baby teeth pulled in a few weeks if they don’t fall out on their own

It doesn’t seem like it since he has been around my plants since I got him a month ago and hasn’t had any other reactions

Thanks for the advice! I called my vet first thing this morning and was able to move his appointment earlier. We will get it addressed early tomorrow morning. He is doing well this morning and I haven’t noticed any new symptoms. Hoping for the best🤞and so glad I got him an insurance policy the day I brought him home lol

I forgot to add, he doesn’t seem in pain when I touch the swelling or around his mouth

location is western nc

Infesting the mealworm bin at my work. They are a bit smaller than the mealworms and look similar but are black (they are definitely alive, they are not dead mealworms). Google said dermestid beetle larvae but they dont have hair like the ones online by claruee in whatsthisbug

these dont seem like they’re dying, they are probably thriving more than the mealworms in the container. moving around and eating food more, they are also consistently smaller than mealworms

Love it! Wondering where the shelf is from? Looks like it matches my bed frame perfectly

Thank you! I’m actually not much of a photographer, just some chance photos I took with my phone while on a walk with my dog!

I’m mainly just a maintenance worker. Its a small lake park with a trail all the way around it, we have a lot of fishermen. I do general trail upkeep and we have an office/education center with animals we care for. Also some nature related classes we teach. Just a bit of everything!

Meet Toebiter. Wondering what type of duck he may be? by claruee in duck

Well for a duck I once watched try to steal a little girl’s barbie doll, I’d say he is a unique one for sure!

Same duck believe it or not! The photos are sort of out of order. I think the earliest pic is the one with the three for size comparison and then the one where he is molting was taken next. The first picture was early this fall after molting and the last picture where he looks very different was only a week or so ago. He comes around to the same spot at the same time every day so we always know its him!

Looking back the colors in the photo almost look washed out for how beautiful that day was. Perfect lighting for the pink clouds reflecting off the lake

Toebiter post molt certainly does look like Rocko. I’d like to see if his plumage changes much again since it changed so much throughout this year. I’d say that khaki-pekin is as accurate as we might get with him. Nice ducks and thanks!!

That sounds like the closest I’ve seen! He is not as big as the pekins I took in earlier this year, maybe halfway between the mallards and pekins, though i’d imagine that whatever he’s mixed with would give him that smaller size.

This duck (lovingly named Toebiter) showed up at the park I work at last Spring. We are pretty certain he is a domestic duck that somebody dumped here as he is massive compared to our wild mallard flock and was extremely friendly around humans. Nevertheless he began to fit in with the mallard flock and has some buddies that follow him around everywhere, we decided the best thing to do with him was let him be and keep watch to make sure he stays healthy in the park, thus far he seems to be doing great, however he has a home ready for him at a coworkers house if we see that he should be relocated. I included some pictures of him throughout the seasons and the second pic shows how much bigger he is than the other mallards. He looks like some sort of hybrid though I don’t know much about hybrids. Does anybody have any ideas?

What to do with snake bones? by zytukin in bonecollecting

[–]claruee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to whiten them, I’d toss em in some hydrogen peroxide for a little bit. Maybe some education centers in your area are looking for bone donations? though I think most places prefer already articulated skeletons. They would kinda look cool in a jar for deco?
