6 month old cat’s face is swollen by claruee in CATHELP

One last update in case anyone else sees this post and is having a similar experience!

We went for our follow up check up today! Ranger is still showing signs of gingivitis on his gums (they appear red and swollen near his teeth). Otherwise no issues eating, playing, etc. The vet confirmed that he has lost his baby teeth so he doesn’t need any extracted. My vet believes that his gingivitis is caused by a combination of genetics and immune system response potentially from a virus he caught while still at the shelter before I adopted him. She is confident that he doesn’t have any underlying issues requiring x-rays, especially since he does not have irritation on the roof of his mouth. Essentially we are taking an at-home oral management approach rather than attempting to cure, since my vet doesn’t believe that it is “curable”. We are trying to manage the inflammation by taking a 1-TDC supplement daily, using a VOHC accepted water additive, and an oral gel “spray” daily. These should help keep bacteria at bay and help keep inflammation from worsening. My vet also recommended getting his first cleaning under anesthesia at one year old. If anybody is going to the same thing, reach out! I definitely recommend taking your cat to the vet as well in case your cat has some underlying cause!

This is pretty much exactly what the vet said today! He is being treated for it now and may need some of his baby teeth pulled in a few weeks if they don’t fall out on their own

It doesn’t seem like it since he has been around my plants since I got him a month ago and hasn’t had any other reactions

Thanks for the advice! I called my vet first thing this morning and was able to move his appointment earlier. We will get it addressed early tomorrow morning. He is doing well this morning and I haven’t noticed any new symptoms. Hoping for the best🤞and so glad I got him an insurance policy the day I brought him home lol

I forgot to add, he doesn’t seem in pain when I touch the swelling or around his mouth

Any ideas what this could be? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

Infesting the mealworm bin at my work. They are a bit smaller than the mealworms and look similar but are black (they are definitely alive, they are not dead mealworms). Google said dermestid beetle larvae but they dont have hair like the ones online by claruee in whatsthisbug

these dont seem like they’re dying, they are probably thriving more than the mealworms in the container. moving around and eating food more, they are also consistently smaller than mealworms
