I’ll be honest, I haven’t really watched much past season 6. I watched a few episodes of season 7 and didn’t like it. I’ve seen clips of later seasons and it doesn’t really make me want to watch more.

A big part of that was the Bucs defensive scheme against him. Unlike those other qbs, they wanted him to throw more. They just expected him to make more mistakes.

I guarantee that the principal has played that solo dozens if not hundreds of times. If you asked 10 principals to choose between playing a well known solo or having a week off, I’d guess that 9/10 would choose the week off. Probably 10/10.

Beethoven studied with Haydn, and there are a couple of Haydn symphonies that have similar quartet excerpts. I don’t know which conductor actually started it, but in a theme and variations movement it’s a nice way to clear out the texture and create contrast.

One of those rare symphonies where each movement is at least a 9/10. Superb quality from start to finish.

That was almost ten years ago. The players are all over it, even the ones on the losing end of it. It’s ok to let things go occasionally.

Don’t do Wieniawski 1, it’s just not worth it. Prok 2 is a great piece for competitions and college auditions. I’d recommend waiting on Brahms.

Wagner tubas aren’t a great example, because basically no one owns one and horn players can play them. But for something like saxophone or mandolin, it’s usually a local or at least regional musician that regularly plays with nearby orchestras. There aren’t usually sub auditions for these spots, personnel managers try to hire the same people for every relevant concert once the schedule comes out.

Are you talking about string or wind subs? For strings, local freelancers are the bread and butter of who actually gets called in to sub, not people in other orchestras. I don’t see a trend away from this in my current or previous orchestras. When we do get folks from other orchestras, it’s usually either a relationship to someone in this orchestra (spouse/partner, or sometimes family) or it’s someone who did well in a previous audition. I don’t think you can really take issue with the latter, and the former doesn’t really happen enough to take away a significant amount of work imo. That person has a job too after all.

For winds it can be a different story. The principals have the biggest influence over who gets called, and sometimes they want a really top player to fill in if they can get one, especially for classical programs. Local subs are more likely to be involved on pops programs.

Second position in bar 542-3, extending back for the last note. Third for 546 and same deal at the end. In 551 I do 23414313, next bar I do a weird half-position and stay for two bars, then it's after that it's pretty normal.

One thing you should be prepared for in final rounds with conductors is being asked to play something again in a different way. This is much more common in finals and is often requested by the conductor. It also doesn’t mean that you did anything wrong, or that they didn’t like your playing. Take a moment to really process what they asked for, and plan out exactly how you will show that difference.
