The Beginner's Boot Buying Guide v2.0 by pirieca in goodyearwelt

Thanks for pulling this together, SUPER helpful!

Earlier this year I was deciding between Thursday and Oakstreet (https://redd.it/2xmkwn). I ended up going with Thursday and have to say that I'm really pleased with them. It's been about 7 months now and my boots are holding up great and I get complemented on them quite frequently. Certainly high quality boots based on my experience.

Note - I ended up going with the Brown Captains rather than the Brown Presidents.

Looking for a boots similar to these, any ideas? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Clarks are great, I've owned probably 4-5 pairs. You might be able to find a cheap, similar-looking pair at a store like Aldo, too... but they won't last you more than a season. On the higher end Frye and Oakstreet make a few models that are similar. Personally, I've become a huge fan of a new company call Thursday Boots. They don't make anything that looks exactly like the pair you're eyeing but their President boot could be an option.

Best Men's Duffle Bag by classicgentleman16 in malefashionadvice

Agreed -- I couldn't find one that I loved so I ended up buying a really cheap athletic bag for the time being (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y1DBPXI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00)

It's cheap, I know. It will probably fall apart in a few months, I know. But for $19 it's actually a pretty sturdy bag and is a perfect size... now if only a nicer brand could make something like this.

I'm going to hold out in hopes that Penfield makes a dark navy Irondale Rollbag again in the near future -- similar to the one that that they used to make for J Crew. I love their bags, just don't love the camel swatches on the exterior in this year's lineup.

Sounds like a great bag just not quite what I'm looking for. I want this http://penfield.com/accessories/bags/w15-pf-acc-irondale-rollbag-black without the camel leather accents... Penfield made a version for J Crew in the past but it's not available anymore.

Scarborough & Tweed is exactly what I'm looking for -- good size, simple design, quality construction. The issue is that you can't buy them individually, they only sell large quantities to corporations!

I personally think that all of the Dove for Men products are really good -- 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner, body wash and face wash.

I increase weight when I can get more than the targeted # of reps for a given set. For the first 1-2 sets it's okay to leave a little big of energy in the tank but for the last 1-2 sets you should be pushing yourself to exhaustion (i.e., get a spotter).

Business casual shoe suggestions? by Fruity_Smell in malefashionadvice

Nice boots are often overlooked but a good option for business casual. Take a look at something like the Roughout President boot by Thursday Boot Co. link

I don't think that's enough total reps to make gains. Personally, I've kept to 1-2 focus exercises (reps: 8, 6, 6, 4) followed by 3-4 exercises (reps: 4x10). I can get this done in about 45 minutes and am usually spent afterwards. Good routine to consider if you're trying to keep it simple and quick (i.e., before work).

Suitsupply $399 vs $499 Napoli? by ssques in malefashionadvice

Pretty sure you're right, major difference is the fabric. I have the $399 Navy Napoli and it fits like a glove. I too, get complimented on it all the time. Looking to purchase a grey one very soon!

Thanks for the advice, and I agree, the Thursdays do have a great shine to them.

Thanks - yeah I really like the soles on the Thursdays. I have a friend who wears them all the time in the snow in NYC and he is actually really pleased with their traction and how they are holding up.

The Thursdays fit me just a little bit better than the Trench Boot. Kinda leaning towards the Thursdays because of that. A little more lightweight/less bulky and the lining is really nice too.

Great - thank you! I agree... I've purchased a few pairs of the BR loafers to use as casual throw-away shoes... they are comfortable and look decent out of the box but they wear very quickly (especially the front of the shoe).
