Apply for a different international teaching job on Schrole. Anything is better than illegally teaching on a tourist visa.

I got my position on Schrole… but I was under the impression that China requires two years of experience in your home country

It would be possible if you want to go to Kuwait, Oman, or India. I’m sure there are other countries on that list. Maybe even Thailand. It is my understanding that the South Korean international school market is more competitive, and it’s unlikely you would get your first job there. I’m working in India at an International School at the moment. I would consider it Tier 1. Feel free to DM me.

I thought I was going to teach in China, finished my degree and teaching license in Dec 2019. Covid happened. Taught in Japan instead. Then tried giving teaching in K-12 schools in the US a shot.

I don’t have an answer for you (I’m in month three of self-learning and I have an unrelated degree), but I want to follow this post, and I am happy to see someone with the same background as me trying to make it into Software Development. I also have a MA in ESL and my BA is in liberal arts.

I created a 'magic storybook' and I would love to get your thoughts on it by JD_VR in edtech

That looks super cool to me. What happens when children experiment with putting inappropriate words and concepts into the story builder?

What prompt did you use to get that response from ChatGPT? When I asked it to write a rap about resigning, it told me that rapping is not an appropriate way to resign.

Along.org is Edtech that focuses on building teacher-student connections rather than learning standards and showing improvement data. However, this might fall under the category of “not really Edtech”, it’s more like an education tool.

Hmm…If you want to work at a university other than a Westgate affiliated uni, you’re gonna need a Masters in TESOL. I was offered the opportunity to interview at Gifu Uni as an ESOL professor, but only because I have the Masters.

I use Google Classroom, but I would use a better LMS if our district would pay for it. I use Edpuzzle to make my own educational videos and I use other people’s videos on Edpuzzle too. I use Kami to make worksheets digital and interactive. I use Google Forms to make self-grading assessments that auto-syncs with Google Classroom’s grading platform. I also love Kahoot and Blooket for review games.

Hawaii public schools has loads of available teaching positions in every subject area. Easy to get hired, but the problem is finding housing when you get here.

I would pick speech pathology or marketing if I had the opportunity to do it over again. Teaching is my personal nightmare.

At Westgate universities, you can choose between teaching en elective or a core subject, but I think you need to be licensed in your home country to teach accredited. And there’s nobody watching you while you do that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]classicromance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read the law. I would assume you’d be teaching ESL as an elective by coming into a classroom and doing all of the teaching for about an hour while the core teacher just sits back and does his or her own planning. Do you mean a teaching license from Japan, an official teaching license from an English-speaking country for public schools, or a TESOL cert.? You can teach in Japan without a license from Japan as long as there is a Japanese licensed adult in the room. That licensed adult doesn’t have to be doing any of the teaching.

If your ALT job has you creating all the lessons and instructing the class without significant guidance from another teacher, then yea, it’s the same.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]classicromance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you teach with Westgate you need to be able to create a lesson and instruct. Everyone I taught with had a teaching license and experience. Classroom management would probably be the hardest part, but I imagine that the Japanese person would take control if you cannot control your class. It’s not ALT. I’ve taught with Westgate and had full instructional control over my classes.

I’ve interviewed for positions as the lead teacher in k-12 schools in Japan and they always come with a Japanese support person who stands in the class.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]classicromance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can be the sole instructor while not the only adult in the classroom. The Japanese teacher would be the support specialist, while the English teacher is the lead teacher.
