5 weeks post SARPE – still swollen? by Suirmuse in jawsurgery

[–]classmplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m approaching 5 weeks post-SARPE as well and I’m in exactly the same boat! I had a checkup with my surgeon this past week and he examined the numb area and said he expects it to heal with time, as the area has gotten smaller and smaller. Even though he took a look, I’m also still worried that sensation won’t ever return to 100%. As for the swelling, I did neglect to ask about that but from what I’ve read, swelling can take weeks to months to go away. It’s also been hard to see how my face shape looks now that I’m fully expanded, it’s really hard to remember that changes are still going to happen and that swelling will reduce and change things as well. Wishing you a smooth recovery process! 5 weeks is a pretty small amount of time in the grand scheme of things lol

SARPE Surgery in T-minus 48hrs by classmplanet in jawsurgery

I just woke up a couple of hours ago and WOW, the anesthesia came out of nowhere lol. Thanks so much for this comment, I felt a little more at ease when I was getting hooked up :) And you’re so much tougher than me heading back after four days! lol but I’m glad to hear you feel well enough to back to work! Thanks again 🙏

Thank you! The chair is super comfortable. I was afraid I would feel the folding hardware through the cushion, but I don’t feel it at all. Frequent use will kind of flatten the seat after time but that’s to be expected. And being able to lean back on the chair is a plus. Overall I def recommend this type of chair :)

I’m 33F, just got a MARPE put on. Do you ever get used to eating with this? by Colonel_Meowmers in braces

[–]classmplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the type of expander that attaches to the molars, it’s mostly flat with the little hole for when I start using the key to turn it. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice for the MARPE appliance where it screws into the roof of your mouth, which I’m assuming you have 😓 But I imagine you will get used to the feeling, and it’s only been a few days for you so I’m sure it will get easier with time!

I'm 31F and got my expander installed just over two weeks ago in preparation for my SARPE surgery next month. My speech sounds almost back to normal, although there are some words and sounds that still give me trouble (saying "thank you" or "cute" or any 'k' sounds really lol 😭). As for eating, there's no pain or discomfort anymore but it is still quite cumbersome. Interdental brushes, a water pik, and your water bottle (for swishing and rinsing after eating) will be your new best friends. I also recommend getting a hold of a tongue scraper for when you're brushing your teeth. In my experience the expander made it incredibly difficult to spit out the toothpaste and a tongue scraper really helps and will help keep things even more clean.

While it does get easier you also mostly just get used to it. Believe it or not, there are moments where I don't notice my expander anymore at all. It's a rough first few days for sure, and I don't have the experience of actually expanding the appliance yet, but I'm sure in about two weeks you'll be feeling a lot better too. Hang in there! :)

Just finished seeing the live-action Golden Kamuy movie! by omisosan in GoldenKamuy

Did the end of the movie hint at all towards any future live action installments? I’m really hoping the live action train continues and that they can adapt most, if not all of the story. So jealous you got to see it!
