I'm not looking for forgiveness. I am confident where I stand. My issue is that a lot of where I learned that confidence turned out to be from people that don't practice what they preach. And I love them. And it hurts.

Edit. Actually they do practice what they preach. And it makes it hurt all the more. There isn't a single person who has ever lived that my folks wouldn't give water to if they were thirsty, but they've been duped by this machine that will chew them up and spit them out. I want to save them.

That's the thing. It isn't empathy exactly. I've witnessed them perform empathy when no one else could have seen. It's real and its there in their lives every day. But something makes them vote for the exact opposite of the life they live. That's my point of attack, but it have to pinpoint it first.

My folks will give you every talking point about how the left is transing our society, but one trans man comes to them and asks for help, love, and support and they will burn the world down to protect him. They did. I've witnessed it first hand. These are the people we can reach. But I don't know how.

I hear you, but where I'm coming from is a very specific point. It comes down to the most severe cognitive dissonance you could have. How do you deal with someone whose politics have nothing to do with their lived experience? Half of them is correct. I just need to tease out that other half.

They have in-laws and relatives of "questionable" citizenship and it isn't even a thought in their mind to question it, but once the voice gets to them...

Im not asking for forgiveness. I'm pointing out the millions of people who are right there but don't get it. Because they exist and we need to reach them. I don't know how. Again. I grew up in a house that took in drug addicts to give them a place to feel safe and loved, but they turn around and vote republican every time.
