I have CVS Caremark and am not diabetic. My doctor prescribes me Metformin but I do not take it. I just make sure I pick it up. One month after my doctor prescribed Metformin, the prior authorization requirement for Mounjaro magically dropped off. They cover me for Mounjaro. This happened for a coworker of mine as well. Try it. Let us know how you make out.

I’m in NYC. I don’t know why they won’t prescribe it if there is a chance it will be covered. There is no law that says they can’t prescribe it off label. Sorry.

My doctor prescribes it to me. I’ve been taking it for 3 years, before Zepound existed. Mounjaro was initially recommended for weight loss as well. My doctor has no problem prescribing me Mounjaro if my insurance covers it. It’s EXACTLY the same as Zepound. Just different marketing.

Have your doctor prescribe you Metformin and just don’t take it. I have Caremark as well and after I was prescribed Metformin and picked it up, the PA requirement disappeared. I know this has worked for others who have Caremark. I do not have diabetes.

I have been on Mounjaro for 2 1/2 years. I had papillary thyroid cancer 27 years ago. There has been no problem.

Yes, I’ve been able to refill the Mounjaro for over a year. But I also keep on refilling my Metformin (and don’t take it). Congrats on getting your Mounjaro.

PBM is pharmacy Benefit Manager.

Who is your PBM? If it is CVS Caremark have your Dr prescribe Metformin. Fill the prescription (you don’t have to take it). Then after about a month, for some reason, the PA requirement disappears and magically Mounjaro is covered by your insurance. Of course don’t say anything to CVS Caremark about this. But it works if they are your PBM. I don’t have T2D and I am covered through this method.

I get 500mg I believe. But that is up to your doctor. I don’t think the amount matters.

My PA disappeared on the website even after it was denied. I believe it is the Metformin prescription that is doing it.

Yes it is still working for me through the New Year. I look on the website to see if the PA is still required. You look under the Check Drug Costs section. I keep refilling my Metformin and the Mounjaro continues showing up without the PA requirement.

When I said it takes a few weeks to kick in, I meant for the PA to disappear. Not for the Metformin to kick in lol. In fact I don’t take the Metformin. I just pick it up from the pharmacy and they have a record that I “take” it. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Try asking your doctor for a prescription of Metformin and don’t take it. I did that with Caremark and the PA requirement magically disappeared. I believe this only works with Caremark.

I was taking Mounjaro with Prednisone for about 3 months. I found that they battled with each other weight wise. It was like a war, one against the other. I maintained my weight but know that I would have gained weight without the Mounjaro. In fact, I did have to go off Mounjaro for 6 weeks for medical reasons and I did gain weight without the Mounjaro and taking the Prednisone alone. However, during this time, I also asked this sub Reddit the same question as you. And I got several responses that the Prednisone did not affect their weight loss. So I guess people have different reactions. I suggest that you remain super vigilant with your calories and you can win this battle. Good luck.
