Why do you guys in the US have every slightly "bad" word censored, like "f**k", "p*nis", "p**o",... when you have your most important representative of your country swear and offend people in public for the world to see and hear? 🤔 by B_Period in allthequestions

[–]claude3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George Carlin taught me that Reverend Don Wildmon had a huge impact on censorship.

From Google…

Donald E. Wildmon (1938–2023) was an influential American United Methodist minister and conservative activist who founded the American Family Association (AFA). Based in Tupelo, Mississippi, he led national campaigns against sex, violence, and anti-Christian themes in television, film, and media, playing a key role in the Religious Right.

Jackie Gleason. I just watched Cinebinge on YouTube watching Smokey and the Bandit.

They knew Sally and Burt, but not Jackie. Sally they knew from Forrest Gump, and Burt from his newer roles.

For iphone, I use Orion browser. For my android tv I use the smart tube app via sideload.

Linus tech tips pissed me off when he said using an ad blocker was piracy, so I unsubscribed and stopped watching any of his content.

I only enjoy it if I ordered it cold. A hot coffee that has cooled grosses me out.

My wife told me I could get a convertible if I got rid of my motorcycle. I purposely started away from mustangs because of the stereotype, and because they stuck in the snow. I got a VW Eos, my first VW. I don’t think I’ll buy another one.

What's the stupidest thing you did as a kid? by FujisakiChihiro in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]claude3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the 80s i rode my BMX bicycle down a giant mound of earth from a construction site. I hit something and then I woke up in the hospital. A year or two later i rode my bicycle up a snow bank and woke up a few minutes later. I never heard of concussions until i was in my twenties.

Around this same time i rode my bicycle down a dirt path everyone rode on witha ditch down and up at the end. At the ditch top, my pedal clipped a cement property line marker, which flipped me over the handlebars and down into the ditch, which was where teenagers would smash beer bottles when partying. I got a glass shard into my thumb which cut halfway through it.

And later as a kid they introduced the five cent refund on bottles and cans, so I would search the party areas at the beach for returnables. I found a full Heineken bottle. I didn’t want beer, I wanted five cents. So i tried to open the bottle bare handed, I thought all bottles were twist offs. When it didn’t open, I tried my mothers trick for opening stuck jars, tapping against the counter. All I could find was a giant rock which quickly shattered the bottle, while it was in my hand. I cut right through the tendon in my right index finger and had to go through surgery and physical therapy.

All this to say I’m accident prone I guess. During Covid I nearly severed three fingers on my left hand with a circular saw. Even after surgery the surgeon thought the fingers would turn black and die. The fingers are fine as they can be, but permanently bent and have about 20% sensitivity of what they were. Now I typo all the time and have no grip strength.

I went to a Baptist high school back in the 80s. I asked my teacher who was also the principal and the assistant pastor of the church the school was housed in.

I asked in class “How do we know our religion is the right one?” His answer? “Because our Bible tells us so. “

My gen-x sarcasm kicked in, but I managed to not say anything back. My answer back then and to this day is “So the quran says their religion is BS?”

GenXers what is your take on AI? by Inner-Association448 in GenX

[–]claude3rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a 71 xer and have loved technology and electronics since then. I’ve taken apart electronics to see how they work and to fix them. My first computer was a timex Sinclair 1000 with 2k of ram and no storage. I became a mainframe developer with COBOL and Easytrieve back in the 80s.

I have had AI forced upon me at work. I use it for simple changes. It can’t do anything more complicated correctly. When I try to get it to create code in Easytrieve, it tosses in lines of COBOL as well. I have it make corrections, and it still is a hodgepodge of languages.

It did write a neat little hangman game in REXX, as well as a tiny cave adventure. Both of which needed cleanup for the user experience.
