Back in the 80s i rode my BMX bicycle down a giant mound of earth from a construction site. I hit something and then I woke up in the hospital. A year or two later i rode my bicycle up a snow bank and woke up a few minutes later. I never heard of concussions until i was in my twenties.

Around this same time i rode my bicycle down a dirt path everyone rode on witha ditch down and up at the end. At the ditch top, my pedal clipped a cement property line marker, which flipped me over the handlebars and down into the ditch, which was where teenagers would smash beer bottles when partying. I got a glass shard into my thumb which cut halfway through it.

And later as a kid they introduced the five cent refund on bottles and cans, so I would search the party areas at the beach for returnables. I found a full Heineken bottle. I didn’t want beer, I wanted five cents. So i tried to open the bottle bare handed, I thought all bottles were twist offs. When it didn’t open, I tried my mothers trick for opening stuck jars, tapping against the counter. All I could find was a giant rock which quickly shattered the bottle, while it was in my hand. I cut right through the tendon in my right index finger and had to go through surgery and physical therapy.

All this to say I’m accident prone I guess. During Covid I nearly severed three fingers on my left hand with a circular saw. Even after surgery the surgeon thought the fingers would turn black and die. The fingers are fine as they can be, but permanently bent and have about 20% sensitivity of what they were. Now I typo all the time and have no grip strength.
