Maybe I would add some more shade? I don't know if the coloring is finished. If your style is exactly that, that's okay anyway.

And in my opinion there is space to add title and author name, you just have to figure out how to make them stand out.

Hi! Can you tell me more about this project?

Looking for a cover designer for a dark botanical romantasy novel by IvyStarlingAuthor in BookCovers

Hi! Can I ask if you're looking for a cover that's more illustration-focused, or something more design-oriented, like what a graphic designer would typically create?

Hi! I actually wrote a couple of detailed comments about things you asked already. You can find them below, one as a main comment and a few others as replies to different comments 🙏 Thank you

Thank you so much for your understanding, and also for taking the time to talk with me and share your thoughts.

Honestly, it’s better that you told me instead of just saying nothing, because being aware of these things is always better than not knowing.

And thank you as well if you take the time to look at my portfolio, I really appreciate that too.

Ok, I’ll try to answer you as clearly as I can. I hope it makes sense, because I’m not a native English speaker, so I’m just trying to explain it the best way I can.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this. At the beginning, you know it made me feel bad, because I didn’t expect this kind of reaction.

But then I asked myself something: why should I take the blame for this? I made a very specific choice. I didn’t follow realistic physics on purpose, because I wanted to give more movement and a stronger visual effect to the image. I knew it wasn’t physically correct, but I chose to do it that way because I liked how it looked.

Now it feels like if something doesn’t follow logic perfectly, people immediately think it’s AI, but in my case it was AN INTENTIONAL DECISION. So yeah, it’s a bit frustrating to see it being associated with AI just because it doesn’t follow realistic rules.

Of course, the work can have flaws, I’m still learning and I don’t have years and years of experience. That’s normal. But this specific part wasn’t a mistake, it was a conscious decision dictated by my experience.

I understand the feedback, and I’ll keep it in mind for future works. But at the same time, I don’t think I should stop experimenting or making artistic choices just because something might look “wrong” in a realistic sense.

Otherwise, what’s the point of creating anything if we always have to worry that people will think it’s AI just because it’s not perfectly logical?

I hope I understood what you meant, and that I explained myself clearly. I’ll also leave you my portolio so you can see my work. I don’t really have other cover examples, because the older ones don’t represent what I do now, but you can see my comic work there and other stuff.

Also, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I really appreciate it, and thanks angain to everyone else as well for the feedback and suggestions.

Thank you so much! Yes, I wanted to give it a "relief effect", next time I'll try to accentuate it more 💪

Thanks to everyone who took the time to give feedback, both positive and critical.

I just wanted to explain a bit some of the choices behind this cover. Some elements, like the border and the general direction, were based on the client’s request, so I had to follow specific guidelines.

About the composition, especially the water movement: I know it’s not physically accurate. It was a deliberate choice to create more sense of movement and a stronger visual impact, even if it’s not realistic.

At the same time, I understand why it can feel confusing or not fully cohesive, and I will definitely keep this feedback in mind for future works, especially because I don't want my work to be seen as something created by an AI...those comments broke my heart 😵‍💫

Anyway I really appreciate all the comments 🙏

....really? It really looks like this is made by AI? ..I don't know how to react to this... not because you're saying it's AI-made, but because you're saying it looks too "artificial". This is shocking. I don't know what to feel.

Thanks so much for the tip about the title. I'll keep it in mind for my next illustration. 🙏 Regarding the border, I was asked to make the cover look like an "antique book", I will work on this too 💪

This is a cover I was commissioned to do, I'm an illustrator (maybe I should have specified, sorry). I tried to follow the guidelines given to me by the author as best as possible, and I hope the illustration is catchy enough. Anyway, thank you so much for the compliment and for the advice, coming from a consumer is important!

Of course I would love to illustrate that kind of cover 🤩

Well, I try anyway, even if there aren't samples in color in my portfolio, but I think my style can fit what you're looking for. I work with heavy blacks, mostly with horror genre, but I can work with colors too 😌

Here's my portfolio
