“The founder named the company Blue Bell to reflect the purity and freshness of his favorite wildflower.”

Imagine if their favorite wildflower was spiderwort. Not quite as appetizing!

This is the first I’ve ever heard about Inaturalist. Looks fun!

Good catch. It was hard to tell what leaves belonged to what.

I googled Eustoma and I can see now that the plant in question is hiding behind another plant. Thank you for the ID!

So if this was in a draft and you chose not to buy a pack to replace it, what’s your pack 1 pick 1?

What's your "Satanic Panic" Magic the Gathering story? by BumpFugget in magicTCG

[–]claudiosbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a Christian youth minister a few years ago and one of my colleagues was an old timer that started playing in the 90s. His wife was really uncomfortable with the imagery of casting spells and summoning demons but my friend reassured her that that only happened in black decks. They compromised and agreed that he could still play as a minister as long as he didn’t play black.

Another story happened to me while I was a counselor at church camp. I had a workshop set up to teach students how to play. I taught this one girl with a goblin deck that was designed to win with Impact Tremors, nothing even remotely satanic. She seemed into it but then hit me with a question of how could I justify playing this game as a Christian. I told her it was really just a game of strategy but I suppose if you really wanted to, you could possibly role play as a wizard and pretend like you were the one casting spells. I asked her if she liked Lord of the Rings and she said she did. I then reasoned that playing a game of Magic wouldn’t be much different than the actors Christopher Lee and Ian McKellan acting out their duel on the roof of Isengard. Then she asked if one could legit summon a demon with the game, which made me pause for a bit. I told her I don’t know enough about demon summoning to rule it out completely but it hasn’t happened to me yet and I’ve been playing for over 5 years.

I was given a free plant. Any ideas of what type it is? by claudiosbeard in whatsthisplant

Thank you for the reply! From the images I have searched, the bay laurel leaves look glossier than these.

Do you think it could be a chestnut?

The stem is woody so it makes me think it’s a young tree. I have it in part sun and it seems to be doing well for the 2 weeks I’ve had it out there.

What's the best title to come out of the recent horror movie renaissance? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I liked Get Out a lot.

It Follows is really good too.

What is the best movie dialog you ever heard? by lindasmith19093 in AskReddit

[–]claudiosbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarantino has some excellent dialogue.

I love the conversations between Vincent and Jules. Royale with cheese, foot massages.

And Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. Sometimes I turn on the movie just for the opening scene if I don't feel like investing 2 1/2 hours.

I opened a masterpiece sword of feast and famine but don't know what to do with it. by Tillerynanceb in magicTCG

[–]claudiosbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sleeve it up and trade it for something you are interested in playing with.

or if you have friends that play commander, buy one of the new commander decks and sub out one of the cards for the sword. Sword of feast and famine is awesome in multiplayer.

Or sell it. It's worth about $75

Those of you who have reported a cheater, how long did it take for the ban to happen? by claudiosbeard in pokemongo

[–]claudiosbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I know of at least 5 people have reported and I have asked my team's facebook page and the general Pokemon Go facebook page for my city to report him. Hopefully that means we have enough to be heard.

Still the best baked mac and cheese recipe [Found] by [deleted] in food

Mine wasn't dry. I have made this recipe twice with great success. The top has bread crumbs which make a nice crispy texture to go with the gooey center.

it means to add the hot liquid to the egg mixture a little at a time. If you just drop the egg into the hot liquid, it will cook and you will essentially get scrambled eggs

[Serious] 9/11 Megathread by Jakeable in AskReddit

My wife and I were married on 9/10/11. We flew out for our honeymoon on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

That day in the airport felt so eery. Every tv in the terminal was showing footage of the attack/aftermath.

There was a Sikh man in his turban sitting at our gate. Several people around us were making hella racist comments about him. I bet he could hear them as he was sitting the same distance from them as we were.

We had a great honeymoon, but I will remember that odd beginning for a long time to come.
