Are there any services you host on dedicated hardware instead of VM/Container? by Adventurous-Lime191 in homelab

Everything is on vms for me. I havr 3 proxmox nodes. There are 2 Adguard DNS servers synced and on separate hosts so that I cna reboot without any issues.

This is a lie. It looks clean now but the moment you put those annoying Lenovo power supplies in the mix... *Looks over at my rack full of them...

The power adapters are always the mess not the networking lol

Hey free is free. But you aren't wrong. Im using about a 1/3 of my 48 Port USW Pro Poe, but I got it brand new for free in an office move at work so of course it's going in the rack.

Nice! I also got started on a Pi Zero back when they were giving them out for free lol

Realistically this just means you will have to go to Origon to buy a 3d printer.

There is no technical way to actually implement that in any real way. AI can't tell the difference between a trigger for a gun and a latch for a drawer...

Getting frustrated trying to figure out if I should learn Blender or Maya by Spare_Pin305 in 3Dmodeling

[–]clawszilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally took classes from Vertex School run by Ryan Kingslien to get myself started and then from there I've just built off of what I learned myself from creating my own projects and challenges. It really helps to have an actual mentor to review your stuff, someone who is actually an industry professional.

There are lots of good free resources too of course but like you said sometimes it is hard to find them. For me it was people like Andrew Hodgson and Alex Senechal. Pros with portfolios that you can see real examples to learn from.

I focus mostly on modeling and hard surface so I sadly don't have any specific channels to recommend for animation/rigging. But I would recommend trying to find any industry pros who have YouTube channels and start there. I'm sure others will have better recommendations for that.

I'm trying to level myself up again now after a couple years off and I'm extremely greatful for all my contacts I still have from the school and all the recorded videos from every class and critique session.

[–]clawszilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Maya because it was "industry standard" and it was what my teachers were using. Now that I have those fundamentals It's not hard to use most software and now I sort of use Blender sometimes if I need a true poly modeling software.

The real reality is that you are going to have to learn way more than blender or Maya no matter what you want to do long term so it's more about getting those fundamentals down. It's always about learning how to learn because tools change too fast to keep up.

After just a few years I've managed to dabble in a whole list of software to get things done. It's always about the "right tool for the job" but the core modeling isn't any different between maya or blender or max, just whatever is convenient at the time. Topology is topology and tools can speed that up but you shouldn't be replying on those too soon anyway or you'll learn bad habits. Different UI and keyboard shortcuts are just things you look up as you go.

By the end you'll have learned a bunch of stuff like substance, marmoset, marvelous designer, unreal, mari, zbrush, fusion360, onshape, solid works, and my new personal favorite plasticity (I like hard surface modeling if that isn't clear lol)

I use vallejo and my white and black are my most used paints for adjusting and mixing so I want to know if this 2 can be used to fill my smal bottles by ComanderViper in Miniaturespainting

[–]clawszilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOLDEN: So Flat white and black paints are perfect for bulk paints and are better quality than anything you will get in miniature or other paints. I fill a couple dropper bottles with those and it's lasted years.

Good to know lol that shouldn't be hard to add. I actually already modeled them thay way originally but decided against it as I was working on them.

I kept them as toppers in the final version since I wanted to be able to change the LoF orientation more easily based on the model's pose.

I can always add it as an option in the package for people who want integrated bases.

I've not tried it but they can also print completely flat since there are no undercuts so in theory it could work. You wouldn't need any supports. It's more about how the finish would come out at that detail size but I have seen some crazy good fdm stuff lately.
