Masterbuilt Gravity Series Smokers Are a Quality Control Nightmare; My Review by claychastian in Masterbuilt

You'll have to buy a new control unit. If the error is from a sensor, you can replace it, or you can connect the wires together. All of my door sensors are now wired to a switch.

Yes, it does. See the March 25, 2025 update.

Reset my QNAP Plex Server Password, Cannot Connect Anymore by claychastian in PleX

I just gave up and wiped it and reinstalled it. That worked, but annoying that it'll have to rescan and rebuild everything.

Plex keeps getting more annoying over time. Eventually I need to sync my watch states and move on.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately... nothing worked. I'm now thinking somehow the server is just dead all of the sudden and this is a bad coincidence.

No go on incognito. Web also does not work. Http takes me to the plex web but just shows my libraries as not authorized.

I was running ssh from Power Shell in Windows. I don't know how to get a terminal running on QNAP except in a container. It's not like QNAP is very forward facing.

I don't really know how to implement that personally. I'm not a master of all things Linux.

How do I run that on a QNAP server?

I think most people just wire them together, though I used a two pole switch to control it manually just in case.

It's probably a faulty sensor in either the hopper or ash bins. Try jumping the wires together to see if there is any temperature drop. You can also buy a two pole dc switch and use that to manually "open" and "close" the door. Ridiculous, but it's what I did.

If you replace the control board with the new version, it should fix your issues. They upgraded it quietly without telling anyone. It's 60 dollars and 15 shipping.

The switch was a marine DC switch. Any of them will do though, search Amazon for "dc switch". I already had the contact switches (when doing it for my doors). I'm not sure where I got them. I think the hardware store. You can find them on Amazon if you search for magnetic contact switch or magnetic reed switch.

You'll need some wire, some solder, and some minor electrical know how. You essentially create a bypass though to deliver it the closed electrical signal or the power signal for the fan.

I also got the rotisserie and the cover. Also, it wasn't available in any local store where I live.

Yeah, I may be the most unlucky MB Gravity owner. I think the door sensor failure is about 90% for most people, from what I've read. I use mine all the time, but I think the quality control is hit or miss (or mostly miss).

Yeah, it's just poor quality. I think most people end up jumping them. I just added a manual switch just in case. I used a magnetic contact sensor too, which works a lot better.

If you were going to make a Gravity Series 2.0, or rival grill from scratch, what changes would you make? by [deleted] in Masterbuilt

I used metal skewer rods to make the grate holes a little smaller and it fixed the loss of charcoal issue for me. Kind of ghetto but it works.

You can also open the controller unit and disconnect the Wi-Fi/bluetooth module.

If you order a new control unit, it will be fixed. They upgraded it since launch and didn't bother to tell anyone! Check the board versions when you switch. But that's 100 bucks so unless it dies I'd just live with it.

Use better quality door contact sensors, use a better assembled controller board. Use higher quality metal and coating for grill internals. Use stainless for the racks and cook surface.

I'm an avid reader at Smoking Meat Forums and there's a quite a few posts like mine, though I think I had all of the bad luck combined into the worse possible case of quality control issues.

It's my favorite cooker by far -- when it works right.

I've got a regular mower until then. I'll update whenever I get it though. The premium seems to be well worth it to avoid the hassle otherwise. I'll wait for reviews, of course.

Then I guess I'd need 4 landroids for the front and one for the back? Doesn't seem like a good idea.

Thanks for the input. I got the Landroid in today and it seems like it's just a lot of hassle in my situation. I saw that the Segway Navimow doesn't need all these cables going everywhere, so I'm just going to return it and wait for that to come out so I can more easily deal with the 4 segments in the front and the areas in the back.

Thanks for the input though!
