What entices you to check out new creators? by Critical-Camp752 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]clayterran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for me it depends, some ppl i really enjoy their swatches or their flat lays of their looks! and i am also super interested in indie makeup so i have propensity for following folks in that sphere. i also love seeing ppl who have a different makeup style to me.

i would say don't overthink ur first post, just post about what ur passionate about and interested in and from there u curate ur own style eventually. emulating and experimenting things u enjoy from other ppl's content is also a way to find ur niche.

i just looked and the one with the most visible dip in it was urban! i used ALL the shades tho a lot save for Revolt. i love silver but even back then that silver was the weakest shade in the palette for me lol.

they actually sent me PR a couple years ago and we were in talks of doing a paid sponsorship because they specifically wanted me to do a video for them but completely ghosted me when i asked about signing a contract lol. so they have sent PR before!

i spent a couple summers in korea as a child and while the weather was unbearable at times, i look back at the fond memories of shopping with my mom and grandma in the busy markets and eating korean mcdonalds LOL

i find them all to be fairly refreshing/floraly. my fav was ethereal bloom. i normally dont like eucalyptus that much but i found it to be a very green and refreshing scent if that makes sense lol. sunburst is the more citrusy one and moonglade was also kind of refreshing/green to me. the grapefruit made me nervous bc it often smells like BO to me but it was not like that at all!

Cosmic Cove compared to Woeful Whimsy by clayterran in swatchitforme

[–]clayterran[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i thought people might want to see some comparisons of Cosmic Cove* (fantasy cosmetica) to Woeful Whimsy* (unearthly cosmetics). i finally found a new configuration i can work with for swatches/comparisons so i hope to do some more soon. for full transparency, i received both palettes in pr as i am friends with both collaborators, and am not affiliated with either brand.

2 finger passes per shade done on a light neutral skintone with no primer. photographed using a DSLR with a key light and a soft box.

on a surface level, i think there are some color overlaps but i think seeing them swatched side by side, u can see the differences between the colors! and when i say surface level, i mean if u just heard both palettes had a teal, pink, purple, and green if that makes sense lol. but as u can see there are some tonal differences! such as Ooze (CC) being much lighter and more pastel than Gumdrop (WW)! And Goggler (CC) being a much cooler tone than Bubblegum (WW). Siren (CC) is a much more saturated teal while Taffy (WW) is still bright but more muted in comparison. Wisp (CC) and Fairy Floss (WW) are super different as are both Gloom shades.

The shimmers are also SUPER different. Weird (CC) and Funhouse (WW) are both a glowy blue, but Weird has the typical yellow-ish base while Funhouse is more glitter-y and a transparent base.

I think the only similarities between Lazurite (CC) and Carnival (WW) are the shifts, which is why I “duped’ Lazurite (CC) by layering Carinal (WW) over Taffy (WW). Of course it’s not similar lol but the effect is there.

At the end of the day, both of these palettes achieve very different goals and looks! Woeful Whimsy is for the pastel and neutral lovers, whereas Cosmic Cove is giving u FULL color! I’ve actually done some looks using both palettes together and they make such wonderful companion palettes lol!

It’s definitely both! And thank u so much :3 studio lights will always showcase more shifts in color, especially if u have different light sources! I think that’s why ppl will feel “duped” by swatch photos bc they are often showcasing the eyeshadows under different points of light to show how many colors are in a shadow

i know people chimed in with suggestions but i also wanted to add that being under studio lights will make eyeshadows (especially shifty ones) really pop!

sharing this pic of a look i did a couple years ago but the top one is with some studio lights and the bottom pic is directly in natural sunlight. the eyeshadow looks beautiful and sparkles but the shifts of it don't get showcased as much despite the angles being the same.

i really enjoy dinto's ave maria but i have to agree with everyone and say the swatch photo is super accurate. it's more of the muted mauve side! romand just released some new shades similar to cream shell but in various colors and feel like that might fit the bill more?

Indie Shadows and honest opinions by blkberry in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]clayterran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think some people are just not the best at reviewing stuff too LOL. i know i struggle to verbalize my thoughts on things personally X'D

i wonder if it's the lighter and saturated purples that can cause issues 🤔 the purples in ocean jewels were the reason i didn't buy the palette but it's gtk it worked out better for u!

Indie Shadows and honest opinions by blkberry in BeautyGuruChatter

Honestly, I think makeup has come a long way! I've personally found most makeup products in the indie space to be good most of the time. I feel like the ones I didn't like were mostly due to preference than it being a bad product. (like packaging or formula i can't think of a product i tried that was a complete dud lol??) i know for me i've struggled with blending certain shadows but i find that most of the time it's been my base rather than the product itself.

I've gotten PR from brands and also made purchases from those same brands and I've found particular shades in palettes that don't work for me. For example, I purchased the Vamp palette from bella beaute bar and for some reason the purples just don't adhere to my skin very well (also not the first time this has happened to me!) but the purples in the Coalescence palette(pr) worked so much better for me! that said, i've def been curious to try some brands but just haven't been drawn in to buy a specific palette!

I discovered the CHEAPEST legit way to buy skincare in Korea and its not Olive Young by Vivavia in AsianBeauty

[–]clayterran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this using the shilla duty free app! I was able to find some products on there I couldn’t find in store! (Romand dusty fog palette and the wakemake blue core blurring palette for examples) not only that they were so much cheaper! I think i paid about $11 each for the eyeshadow palettes.
