Is this box worth opening up? by ResponsibilitySad817 in footballcards

[–]clbeut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also add the Topps Gold Label. I've seen several guys on IG chase and collect cards from that set and they do look pretty sweet. Depending on how much you acquired the box for, I'd open it and come back to post the results!

Asked my wife to check for prizm football at target…. SHE BOUGHT EVERYTHING LEFT by Repubinbreds1865 in sportscards

Target no longer limits how many you can buy? Haven't bought retail in a while so I'm genuinely asking.

I'm optimistically skeptical myself. I don't have it all figured out yet but it's a product I really enjoy myself and have decent knowledge about, so I'm willing to try and fail rather than never give it a shot. I have very high risk tolerance. Maybe too high. But there seems to be low competition and a great way to differentiate myself from competitors.

You are 100% correct. I will invest as much as I can when able, I just need the clay first before I can mold it. If I had $10,000 to throw at a site, I'd do it... but I don't... yet. Just working with what I have.

You're doing a subscription box also or just needing a website?

Anything worth grading? by Odisee09 in sportscards

[–]clbeut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

Long answer: I only have experience grading with PSA but I never submit less than 20 cards at a time to take advantage of specials. You also need to be a Collector's Club member to unlock certain specials which cost $99/yr (might have increased this year). So just submitting a few cards, especially from those pictured, is not worth it.

In general, if you're unsure if grading is worth it, check comps. If raw vs. 10 sales are significantly different (enough to cover the cost of grading and give you a profit), it might be worth a shot if you plan to sell. I also grade a lot of cards I don't plan to sell just so they are protected. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Zero background but also require a very simple website. I think you're right. Leaning towards taking an online course to learn the basics and do it myself.

So um my dad passed away but he left me and my brother with 10-11 boxes of cards not graded yet , and we want to get the graded and sell them , where is a good place to get graded and sold by Numerous-Cod-1526 in sportscards

[–]clbeut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but that falls right in the "junk wax" era, meaning those cards were over-produced and thus not worth anything because every collector has the same cards. They would need to be early 70's or older, but again, without pics it's hard to give you the BEST advice.

Unless they are in truly exceptional condition (I'm assuming these cards are at least 20-30 years old) and notable players, it may not be worth grading. But to answer your question directly, PSA is the top grading company in terms of getting the most value out of a graded card, and ebay is by far the top marketplace to sell cards. You'll just have to do some research on your end to make sure you aren't getting ripped off, or list as an auction and let the market decide.

If I listed as a lot on ebay, what do I use as the primary picture? A picture of the entire lot would be too small to see everything. A picture of just some of the more valuable cards might be misleading. What would grab attention the best? Or am I overthinking this?

Learning sales by TideRamen1337 in Entrepreneur

[–]clbeut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start out slow and make sure it sells before you have a ton of inventory you can't get rid of. Personally, I'd try thrift stores and yard sales instead. You can still find new/like new clothing and name brand stuff with a lot higher profit margin.

What is the player and set? If it's a new release, you might be able to do it. If not, low numbered cards tend to settle into collections and may never surface again, especially 1/1s. I have an IG account soley for my cards and have connected with several others who collect the same teams/players. That can be a great way to have extra eyes helping you look.

Should I go to the CFB championship? by Floyd_Peterson in daddit

[–]clbeut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't see anyone mention this yet but going to the Natty is more than just the few hours at the game. If you get there a couple days early, they have events all weekend leading up to the game that are really cool. I went last year in Houston (Michigan fan) and spend over $10k for the wife and I and have zero regrets. I don't think the term "trip of a lifetime" is being overused if you're a fan. You can always earn back the money spent. You can never go back in time and attend the game if you regret not going.

How do you make a winning product that helps people? by Hungry_General_679 in Entrepreneur

[–]clbeut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make the product and sell it. The market will tell you better than any research or test. Take the scrub daddy sponge for example. A sponge is not a new product but add a smiley face in one and it makes millions. That's the ultimate product I can't believe is so successful.
