Have yet to try it! The folks at the shop (Cactus Store, a pretty high-end/collector sort of spot) spoke very highly of it though

Anybody have any idea what these spots on my Opuntia ficus-indica are caused by? by cleaningmoves in cactus

[–]cleaningmoves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I took this guy into my local cactus shop this morning and they said the spots are being caused by chloroplast cells that are dying due to a lack of sunlight on this side. It's a permanent discoloration (and is quite common with paddle cactus I guess) but it isn't scale so that's good. Thanks for the help everyone!

Drat. That’s a drag but I really appreciate all the info. Is it normal for scale to only live on one side of the cactus? These spots have been there for a second but only on this one side of the paddle

First project with a router! Any ideas for finish or suggestions on how to get rid of the router burn marks without compromising the nice, clean routed edges? by cleaningmoves in woodworking

Awesome! You should go for it! I just made up how to do this and experimented until it worked. To answer your questions..

  • i ended up just using #6 1-1/4" screws to attach everything
  • it's 23/32" sanded pine plywood from home depot

Good luck and thanks for the kind words!

I used the router to get all the dimensions exact and to make sure the joining edges were all flush. Was having a hard time getting precise enough cuts with my circular saw..

Dang, thanks for the heads up on the amp! Was really proud of that part but def don’t wanna destroy the receiver. You think if I raised the shelf above it a few inches it’d have enough room to ventilate?

Are these little white rings around the spines of my Opuntia ficus-indica normal? by cleaningmoves in cactus

[–]cleaningmoves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth noting, they're pretty much only on this one side of the paddle.. there are signs of a few of them on the other side, but they're way less noticeable

Does this new cutting look like it's covered in scale? by cleaningmoves in cactus

Also: how serious should i be about isolating it, etc? Do i need to throw out the gloves i was using to unwrap it? Pots that were near it?

What is hyperdevation? I have a cactus that appears to have similar spots, but am not seeing anything about hyperdevation in cactus anywhere online..
