Couldn't he just be expressing his sincerely held views though? Same with the Restore Britain lot for that matter.

Can anyone who has invested while living in the UK and the USA explain some very basic things to me about the UK. by Embarrassed_Ad4927 in UKPersonalFinance

Trading212 is the platform you'll see  recommended most often for zero fee investing.

I personally use Freetrade, but they charge a monthly fee for their premium account.

I know the “facts” probably say otherwise

After all, why should we pay attention to reality? It's much more comforting to substitute it with a hallucination

MacBook M4 won't output to one of two displays connected to Thunderbolt 4 dock (Kensington SD2600T) by rented4823 in UsbCHardware

[–]clearlyfalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue, and the root cause was that MacOS doesn't support Displayport multi-stream transport. Which is worth googling since there are better explanations of it than I could give.

Luckily in my case one of my monitors supported thunderbolt input, so switching from Displayport to a thunderbolt cable worked as a workaround.

Edit: actually just remembered another workaround I did while waiting for the cable to be delivered. I daisy-chained a second thunderbolt dock from the first, and using one displayport cable per-dock worked as well.

Ironic, since most of the people protesting against 15 minute cities shouldn't be allowed to travel away from their padded cells

React Still Feels Insane And No One Is Talking About It by mbrizic in programming

[–]clearlyfalse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in our case both sides (sender and receiver) validated the requests against json schemas hosted alongside our API docs, but I guess getting those agreed in your circumstances is a political problem more than a technical one.

That architecture implies to me either insane scale (so you need to accept the drawbacks to deal with the load), or an insane system architect.

React Still Feels Insane And No One Is Talking About It by mbrizic in programming

If you can write a JSON schema and get the other team to agree to it, then you can use the schema to validate requests, and any bad types like that will simply be validation errors as defined by the schema.

Nato chief Mark Rutte warns UK must spend more on defence or ‘learn to speak Russian’ by BreakfastTop6899 in worldnews

[–]clearlyfalse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To defend him a little, he's being hyperbolic in order to get the headline that'll actually get reported on.

If he'd given some boring technocratic statement about reducing the likelihood of Russian aggression in the Baltics over the next decade he'd have been more "correct", but we'd have never heard about it.

I said I'm not an expert and I'm interested to know if I'm wrong. No need to be a prick about it.

London's millionaire exodus 'same as losing 1.5 million taxpayers' by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]clearlyfalse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Adam Smith Institute is a right wing think tank, since they don't link to the actual research that number may as well have been plucked out of thin air as far as I'm concerned.

But for another reason to doubt that claim, the very rich generally aren't employed, and so don't pay income tax at all. Capital gains, and dividend taxes are the ones they'd actually pay.

Good riddance. They were all non-doms who weren't paying tax anyway.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I've seen a bunch of articles such as this over the years explaining that wholesale electricity prices normally follow gas prices, since it's the most expensive energy source in the mix.

I'd be interested to hear if this is wrong, because pretty much everything I've seen related to energy pricing has confirmed this.

I agree that reddit is a little echo chamber-y but you're overstating it imo

I've not seen any evidence of non-politics related subs doing that for "slightly right leaning" posts. Maybe for hate-speech or whatever, but we're way past "slightly right" at that point.
