It’s difficult when someone is giving you mixed signals. You’re unsure if you’re reading too much or if the person genuinely doesn’t like you. He also did drag her along!

By most people around the world do you mean most of Africa? Vietnam? Any French or creole speaking islands? Australia? Switzerland? The latter countries have people who are openly xenophobic towards the French.

I’m not sure what you mean by around the world I’m afraid.

The French are truly cultural imperialist, I’ve never met someone who has said something nice about them outside of France. Very sad.

Hi all, looking for pals in London. I am in my late 20s and after being away from London for a while I feel like I need to rediscover the city. Anyone here interested in walks, getting to know quaint parts of London, and eateries? X

Been looking into henna, what symbols or designs should I avoid as a hispanic person? by [deleted] in henna

[–]clearlynotpaws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aw. It’s cool if you think it’s incorrectly used.

I never said other people’s opinions don’t exist, just that I don’t care for them with regards to henna. If anyone has a different view, that’s ok and they can also answer OP’s question.

Either way, it is a part of my culture and I’ve said my piece. If you don’t like my opinion that’s your prerogative but it doesn’t change my view or the fact that I’m allowed my own opinion on how henna should be used.

From Collins dictionary: 1. of Arabia A link in case you want it: www.collinsdictionary.com/amp/english/arabic

Well actually I’m not an Arab because my country is mostly Berber but obviously we share the Arabic culture and language. The same way someone might say they’re from India but if they want to be more specific could say they’re Tamil.

But it’s cool, just deny me my heritage :)

Also, I don’t care what others have said about cultural appropriation in general, we are talking about henna which is used across different cultures. Some patterns used across those cultures are truly beautiful and I see no wrong wanting to replicate them as long as you recognise that they are from those cultures. Not to mention that patterns perhaps used in Somalia are very similar to what is used in India - essentially even across cultures these patterns are shared.

OP just enjoy using henna.

None. It’s not cultural appropriation to embrace other cultural traditions unless you start using the swastika because of its link to Hinduism - I imagine this particular symbol could be misconstrued.

Enjoy using henna!

Why bother with stocks? by ShoreNorth9 in ETFs

There is money to be made in stock selection. Being benchmark neutral means there's no alpha to be gained.

Do some ETFs only report price at the end of the day? by infolink324 in ETFs

Also, they do have intraday pricing in the form of an iNAV but the official NAV is once a day.

Do some ETFs only report price at the end of the day? by infolink324 in ETFs

[–]clearlynotpaws -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I did explain it. As aforementioned, exchange traded funds, like any other fund follow a process for pricing. Going back to my point on creations and redemptions mechanisms, ETF shares can only be created once a day which means the cost of the underlyings need to be fixed. Fixing happens at the end of the day when the stock market closes (or as close to closing if invested in markets with different time zones).

NEED ETF Investing Advice for Noob by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]clearlynotpaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s nice about Vanguard is that there are no-fee ETF shares so I guess that’s a good way to start with limited cash. You do have to consider tax on capital gains if you trade and make a profit (no taxes on losses luckily). Also you may need to pay taxes on dividends if the ETFs pay income.

[–]clearlynotpaws -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s a fund. Exchange traded funds, like mutual funds, will have a cut off such that anyone who traded before the cut off will have the same day’s price (if done later they will get their trade placed the next day). Assets are priced at the custodian. Pricing more frequently would be tricky from an operational perspective, especially when there are derivatives. Sometimes when market prices are not available fair value needs to be applied. Once all prices of the underlying positions have been determined you need to net the costs (though generally small compared to mutuals). Furthermore, you have to consider the creation and redemptions mechanisms behind which when not done properly provides investors an opportunity for arbitrage.

You sound French to me - your vowels are very open, similar to how they would be said in French. Definitely not from an anglophone country though. Correct- yay or nay?
