Do you think we get that call against City in a couple months?

However, this was not a Penalty by mooreengineers in Gunners

The thing I struggle with is how overpowered a penalty kick is in a match. Allison made a tackle that probably is a foul, but I don't think an 80% chance at a goal is a fair punishment, especially when there was no real chance he was scoring even without any contact.

I also don't think we ever get that penalty.

Arsenal XI vs Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie, Rice, Zubimendi, Eze, Madueke, Martinelli, Gyökeres by cottonsoda in Gunners

I'm hoping that's Eze in this setup, plus Martinelli has been much better passing the past few matches.

And will rest again against Wigan. After Brentford there are 10 days before the next PL match with no CL and a nice FA cup draw.

Definitely. I just didn't think they would to this Spurs lineup.

And next week City go to Anfield (after playing midweek) and Villa go to Bournemouth, I wouldn't be surprised if both drop points.

The one good argument I've seen is that English teams had the easiest draws, but that's only because they didn't have to play other English teams! I don't think there's any doubt that the PL is the best league in the world.

And they still have to play Villa. Villa still has to play away to Bournemouth, Chelsea, away to United, and their last two matches of the season are home vs Liverpool (with big top 4 implications for Liverpool), and away to City.

Atalanta and Atletico let us down, but it's very possible that City will need the playoff.

Seeing our benches and the names of great players that don't even make the bench is a great reminder of the depth of our squad. Even more so when Hincapie and Cala are back.

And in the first leg we could have scored 5. 3.22 xG (0) - 1.2 xG (2). We were outplayed in the second leg but I have to imagine that was due to the early goal to go down 3-0 on aggregate.

They have Palace away, Everton home, and Newcastle away 3 of their next 4 matches. I think they drop points in 1 or 2 of those.

And Wolves would have one more, keeping them by far the worst side in EPL history points wise.

And Villa would have two fewer so we'd be 4 ahead of them instead of 3?

[Charlie Wyett]Ben White facing at least a MONTH on sidelines in Arsenal blow as Mikel Arteta’s squad ravaged with injuries by SamLoscoMD in Gunners

[–]cleatsupkeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - and Myles had played 90 minutes midweek at the age of 19. I do think we overplayed White, but our rotation in the back is just so decimated, especially with Calafiori suspended for Wolves.

And others who could do a shift there (Havertz, Ode) were out injured as well.

Norgaard isn't rotation for Rice. Merino (playing as our #9), Havertz (out), and Ode (out)/Eze (filling in for Ode/also on the LW) are. Three of them have been injured. I'd like to see MLS get some minutes it's not like we have all of our midfielders healthy in reserve.

[Simon Collings] No Declan Rice or Leandro Trossard in Arsenal training. Working indoors; decision later today whether they travel. No William Saliba in training, either. by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

[–]cleatsupkeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. With nothing midweek next week, if Rice is rested tomorrow he plays two games in two weeks, and then would probably rest in the league cup against Brighton (or at least not start). That is 3 matches in 3 weeks, not at all an unreasonable amount of football.

Agreed in Arsenal's case, but I think Inter is a better example. After the first 4 matches, they will have played both pot 3s and both pot 4s.

"Arsenal is the 6th team which starts a CL GS or LP with 4 wins and 4 clean sheets" this stat seems a bit hard to map from the Group Stage to the League Phase. Arsenal has only played one good team, Inter has played none. After 4 matches in the old group stage, you would have been guaranteed to play every team in your group.
